Chenery sixth graders, Varsha and Megha Sehgal, share reflections on their experience attending the MIT K–12 Climate Action & Education Conference at Massachusetts Institute of Technology last weekend.
On May 9, 2026, 20 sixth graders from Chenery Upper Elementary had the opportunity to attend the MIT K–12 Climate Action & Education Conference at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Ms. Javedan. We presented projects about the erosion of Nauset Beach and explained our ideas to visitors at the conference. We also attended a talk by environmentalist, author, and journalist Bill McKibben about actions we can take to reduce climate change, especially by decreasing the use of fossil fuels and using clean energy. In addition, many of us participated in a workshop where we learned about the effects of CO₂ and greenhouse gases on weather and climate. In the workshop, we tried out many different experiments exploring clouds, water vapor, and the rising global temperatures. Overall, it was a very rewarding experience and something we would definitely do again.
