A Letter from Darnell

August 11, 2026

Dear Belmont Public Schools Community,

It is a privilege to serve as the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Well-Being at Belmont Public Schools. Since joining the district in 2025, I have had the opportunity to listen, learn, collaborate, and work alongside students, families, educators, staff, administrators, and community partners who are deeply committed to the success and well-being of our schools.

I believe that education has the power to transform lives, strengthen communities, and expand what is possible for every learner. My work is grounded in the belief that equity, belonging, and well-being are essential to educational excellence—not separate from it. When students feel a sense of belonging, when educators feel supported and valued, when families are meaningfully engaged, and when leaders have the tools to create more equitable systems, our entire school community becomes stronger.

As I continue this work in Belmont, I am committed to helping build learning environments where every member of our community is seen, respected, valued, and empowered to thrive. This includes supporting educators and leaders in strengthening their practice, creating opportunities for meaningful student and family voice, advancing inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments, and developing systems that respond thoughtfully to the diverse experiences and needs of our community.

My approach to this work is rooted in listening, reflection, relationship-building, research, and action. I believe meaningful change requires both a willingness to examine the systems and practices that shape people's experiences and a commitment to imagining and building something better. Equity work is not a destination; it is an ongoing practice of learning, accountability, and collective responsibility.

I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the Belmont Public Schools community and for the many partnerships that make this work possible. I look forward to continuing to learn alongside you, celebrate our progress, confront the challenges before us, and build the capacity necessary to create schools where everyone can belong and thrive.

Thank you for the trust, partnership, and commitment you bring to this work each day.

Warmly,
