Black History Month Concert - February 27, 2026

About the Event: In celebration of Black History Month, Belmont Against Racism (BAR), in partnership with Opening Doors and the Club Passim Folk Collective, sponsored a powerful and inspiring evening of poetry, music, and conversation featuring Massachusetts Poet Laureate Regie Gibson and acclaimed musician and educator Reggie Harris. The concert was held in Belmont High School's Black Box Theater.

In the Roundhouse: A Celebration of Indigenous Culture & Community - October 13, 2025

About the Event: In celebration and observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Belmont Against Racism (BAR) and The Opening Doors Project, in collaboration with BPS DEIW, presented a live concert and conversation featuring Thea Hopkins of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe. The event was an enriching evening of music, storytelling, and dialogue about the experiences and cultural heritage of Indigenous communities today.

New Educator Orientation DEIW Workshop & Lunch - August 2025

About the Event: On August 27, 2025, Director of DEIW Darnell Thigpen Williams led the Transforming Classrooms: Centering Students in DEI and Antiracism workshop for newly hired Unit A educators. Participants were introduced to BPS DEIW initiatives while engaging in reflection and dialogue about social identities, white supremacy culture, and the ways these dynamics shape classroom relationships, instruction, and outcomes for historically marginalized students.
