The Belmont ELPAC hosted a potluck picnic at Wellington School on September 22 to welcome new families, reconnect with returning families, and celebrate our wonderful English Language Education community.
We had a fantastic turnout, with an amazing array of food from around the world! Families also had access to simultaneous interpretation in five languages.
The evening included a presentation about the English Language Education program, our goals for students, and the importance of partnering with families. New families also applauded returning families who came to help welcome them to our cosmopolitan community.
To wrap up the evening, families were invited to take home free books, generously provided through the Foundation for Belmont Education’s elementary library renewal project.

Today, we kicked off the new school year by welcoming back our returning staff and saying hello to the new faces joining the BPS community!
Superintendent Jill Geiser celebrated the district’s accomplishments and the collective work that has moved BPS forward, while sharing her excitement for the year ahead. School Committee Chair Meg Moriarty also greeted staff and offered her best wishes for a great school year!
Then, principals from PreK through gr 12 took the mic to share what makes their schools so special. While every school has its own unique spirit, one message rang loud and clear: It’s the people who make BPS special.

Today, the BHS Senior Project Exhibition transformed the Field House into a vibrant showcase of creativity, innovation, and learning. Peers, families, staff, and community members walked around the Field House exploring projects that reflected months of research, dedication, and passion from these students. Each project highlighted the unique voice, talents, and vision of our seniors, and it was inspiring to see their ideas brought to life. We are very proud of the Class of 2026 and look forward to all they will accomplish in the future.

At Staff Recognition Day yesterday, Belmont Public Schools and the Belmont Education Association honored educators and staff with 10–30 years of service at a special luncheon, kicked off by a wonderful performance by the Clay Pit Crooners, BHS a cappella group. Thank you for the difference you make in our schools and in the lives of our students every day.
What a way to spend a Friday lunch at BHS! Thanks to Ms. Lacasse, BHS Band Director, we were treated to an incredible live performance by the U.S. Navy Band Cruisers. From cool horn lines to standout guitar, keyboards, drums, and powerhouse vocals, the energy was unforgettable!
Formed in 1999, the Navy’s premier popular music group brings together eight dynamic performers who can do it all — from jazz and R&B to classic rock, pop, and more. Their high-energy, fun-filled performance had staff and students fully engaged and loving every minute.

Congratulations to the Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE) Outstanding Teacher of the Year recipient Meghan Newcombe from our English Department. 🎉
When her students were asked what makes Ms. Newcombe truly outstanding, they didn’t just point to her love of Shakespeare, her knowledge of contemporary literature, or her mastery of grammar. Instead, they highlighted something even more meaningful—her patience, flexibility, kindness, and her ability to make learning genuinely fun.

Belmont students attended the METCO Directors Association’s annual Youth Conference at MIT yesterday, joining peers from 33 districts for a day of learning, connection, and inspiration. Centered on the theme “My Plan, My Purpose,” the conference brought together students in grades 9–12 for leadership development, college and career workshops, and networking opportunities. We’re proud of our students for representing Belmont and participating in this event!
During lunch today, BMHS students got an important railroad crossing safety lesson thanks to volunteers from Operation Lifesaver! Along with fun giveaways and engaging conversations, students received valuable rail safety tips—how to stay alert near tracks, avoid dangerous situations, and what to do when approaching railroad crossings while driving. A big thank you to Operation Lifesaver for helping keep our community safe!
