On Tuesday, the CUE Ambassador Project, spearheaded by 6th grade ELA teacher Maegan Etesse, invited students to become “ambassadors” of a country they are interested in exploring or connected to their heritage. Students represented 49 countries, transforming the cafeteria into a vibrant, global learning experience. Students explored their country’s flag and its meaning, climate, languages, landmarks, and traditional cuisine. They also applied math skills by planning a trip with a $15,000 budget, calculating the cost of round-trip airfare from Boston for four people, along with accommodations, transportation, and sightseeing. Now in its second year, Ms. Etesse said the project was inspired by a student who noticed the many flags displayed in the classroom but didn’t recognize many of the countries and suggested learning more about them. That idea has since grown into an engaging annual tradition.
