The kindergarten screening on Thursday, May 7, is a brief, child-friendly process that helps us get to know your child before the school year begins. During the screening, children participate in simple activities that give us a snapshot of their early skills, such as recognizing letters and numbers, listening and following directions, using language to communicate, and engaging in basic fine motor tasks like drawing or holding a pencil.
The purpose of screening is not to “test” your child, but to better understand their individual strengths and areas where they may need support. This information helps us create balanced classrooms and plan instruction that meets the needs of all learners from the very start. It also allows us to identify any supports that may help your child have a successful and positive kindergarten experience.
