Interim Principal: 2023-2024

Dear Winn Brook Parents/Guardians,

We write to inform the Winn Brook community about an important hiring decision made this week.

As you know from our last communication on 5/25/2023, our search for a permanent Winn Brook principal was unsuccessful.  We announced at that time the decision to re-post the vacancy immediately for an "Interim Principal" position for the 2023-2024 school year and outlined our next steps to secure a capable and experienced interim Principal as close as possible to the traditional July 1 deadline.  We write to confirm that we have done just that.

We are happy to announce that Ms. Cindy Marchand has been offered the position of Interim Winn Brook Elementary School Principal, starting on July 10, 2023.  Her contract will be for one year, through June 30, 2024.  Ms. Marchand is currently serving in the role of Educational Consultant for Ribas Associates.  In that role she teaches graduate courses to educators on differentiation, social-emotional learning, and mentoring, as well as on collegial supervision and evaluation, so she is well-versed in the work of elementary education.  For the last five years she has also been an instructor and the Assistant Director of Field Studies (for the past two years) in the Brandeis University Master's in Education program.  Prior to that, she worked as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Burlington Public Schools in Burlington, MA.  She was a revered Elementary School Principal in the Newton Public Schools -- at Franklin Elementary School and Williams Elementary School -- for more than 15 years before her time as a district leader.  Her teaching experience covers Grades 2-6 at the Mason-Rice Elementary School in Newton, MA and at Dumfries Elementary School in Dumfries, VA.  She brings a BS from Skidmore College in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Education from Wheelock College, and post-graduate studies at Boston College.  We are thrilled to have her take this role on.

Next year, we will again run a complete search for a permanent Principal who will begin July 1, 2024.

Belmont is fortunate to have found such a capable and qualified professional to take this important position on. We hope you join us in welcoming her to the Belmont Public Schools family.

Respectfully
Michael E. McAllister
