Student Support and Counseling

As the Winn Brook School Guidance Counselor I provide support services to address the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students. Guidance is a regular education service and all students have access to support services. Support for students includes individual counseling, group counseling, and whole class instruction. Students participate in social groups to strengthen their connections with peers, improve communications skills, and boost their problem-solving skills. I also visit classrooms to provide assistance to teachers and students, to observe students, and to help facilitate classroom discussions. In addition I am available to consult with parents and teachers about how children are functioning at school. During these consultations I might share information or resources, brainstorm strategies for home/school, and discuss whether or not counseling would be beneficial. On the Kindergarten level I am in each classroom facilitating lessons from a curriculum called ‘Second Step’. These lessons help children learn how to stay focused in the classroom, identify their own feelings and the feelings of others, calm down when experiencing strong feelings, and begin to solve problems independently. I also provide lessons at other grade levels to educate students about how to identify and respond to bullying.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns about the guidance curriculum, services, or about your child. I can be reached at 617-993-5707.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time if you have a concern about your child.
