Thanks to the generous support from the PTA, students in grades K–3 were treated to an exciting enrichment experience with Colby Perron from Wildlife Encounters. Held in two sessions, students met a fascinating lineup of animal ambassadors, including a tarantula, fennec fox, African bullfrog (nicknamed the BFF – Big Fat Frog), a blue and yellow macaw, a baby alligator, and a python. Colby engaged students with fun and educational stories about each animal’s habits, traits, and personalities. A special highlight was Rosie the macaw, whose strong bond with her presenter left a lasting impression. The event wrapped up with an opportunity for willing students to gently pet the python! This enrichment experience sparked curiosity, encouraged questions, and brought science to life in a memorable way!

Together, they have dedicated over 90 years of combined service to Belmont Public Schools, with much of that time spent at Burbank Elementary School. Their commitment, care, and unwavering support have touched countless lives and shaped generations of students. We are deeply grateful for their time, love, and energy they’ve given to our school. Garden Enrichment in Action!
Burbank's students stepped outside the classroom and into our unique garden for a hands-on day of learning, planting, and exploring nature! Ms. Sidman's class had fun digging in the dirt, planting lettuce, spinach, and beets in our veggie garden, and discovering the ants and worms that call the garden home. In the classroom garden, students learned to tell the difference between helpful and harmful insects—bugs can be pretty cool! At the activity table, kids explored the life cycles of butterflies and ladybugs through interactive books and fun activities. A big shoutout to the PTA volunteers and Burbank Gardens for making this experience possible.

This morning, Burbank students and teachers embarked on a magical storytelling adventure with the artist Len Cabral!
With vibrant energy and masterful storytelling, Mr. Cabral brought his Cape Verdean ancestry to life, weaving together African, Cape Verdean, and Caribbean folktales. He delighted the audience, inviting students to echo refrains and enthusiastically suggest animals to join the journey. To make the experience even more magical, he played the kalimba, an African instrument, adding a beautiful musical backdrop to his tales. Exciting Updates on BPS Early Literacy Curriculum Review! BPS is actively reviewing early literacy curricula to enhance K-3 reading, writing, and word study programming. The Literacy Curriculum Council (LCC) has identified three potential options for adoption: Arts and Letters (Great Minds, 2025), Expeditionary Learning (Open Up Resources, 2025), and

Geography Fun in Action! Burbank School was buzzing with excitement for the 28th Annual Dr. Feinberg Geography Challenge! In true tradition, students teamed up in groups of 3 or 4 to tackle questions from the official Dr. Feinberg study guide. The highlights were the creativity and team spirit! From matching t-shirts to fun costumes, these students brought their A-game and competitive spirit while making learning fun. Big shoutout to the Burbank PTA for organizing the event!
Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE) at work at the Burbank School! In December 2024, the Burbank Library received the FBE’s Learning Excellence Grant Program (LEGP) to begin updating and enhancing our Library’s curriculum-related resources. The $1,800 grant resulted in the Library's acquisition of new reinforced or library bound hardcover books related to the science and social studies curriculum, primarily as it pertains to learning about and researching Animals (habitats & life cycles), Native American Nations, American History, Symbols and Community, and Exploring Countries and Cultures.
This significant initial investment in the Burbank Library by the FBE complements the Burbank PTA & our supporters' crucial annual grant to our library. Thank you from the Burbank Community to the FBE! And a big thank you to Barbara Watson for submitting this grant to obtain these wonderful new and needed books for our library!
