Letter to Burbank Community from Interim Principal Marisa Boyajian

Greetings Burbank Elementary Community!

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction as your new Interim Principal of Burbank Elementary School. I am truly honored to join such an amazing nurturing, supportive, successful, and student-centered environment.

A little about me: My collegiate journey began at Merrimack College where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. After working as a Special Education 1:1 Aide, I realized quickly that I needed to start on my teaching path. Subsequently, I received my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Endicott College. My career began in Lawrence Public Schools serving as 4th grade teacher, math and science coach, and then Elementary Principal for the next 18 years before moving on to Woburn Public Schools. Three years ago, I made a professional leap from school principal to Human Resources Director for the Woburn School District. As this year marks my 25th (!) year in public education, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to apply and challenge my educational leadership skills in other capacities as well as acquire many new ones. However, my heart and true calling remains with teaching, learning, and school leadership. I feel I am a better educator and leader as a result of this leap.

When I am not working, I love spending every minute with my family and friends, going to Celtics games, soccer games, sitting around the kitchen table, watching movies or heading out for long weekend drives. I also prioritize my health and wellness by taking fitness and weight lifting classes…and have even become an avid pickleballer! I am working to become a certified fitness instructor.

After visiting Burbank last week, It was abundantly clear that our staff are committed, dedicated and laser focused on providing your children with all they need to be academically and emotionally nurtured. I felt so welcomed and can’t wait to officially get started on Monday, October 16th!

On a final note, though I will be working closely with and learning from staff as I get acclimated, I would sincerely like to thank Principal Brenda Maurao for her support in preparing and providing necessary resources, plans, and schedules in order to ensure a smooth transition. She is so organized and it is clear to see how the school has thrived under her leadership. Brenda is definitely leaving Burbank in a great place and I wish her all the best in her new position!

I look forward to meeting and working alongside you all! Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time. My door is always open, and I sincerely welcome your input and support. I am excited about all we will accomplish together for our children and look forward to celebrating our collective success this school year.

Best,

Marisa Boyajian
