Burbank School News and Announcements

Dear Burbank Parents/Guardians,

We write to inform the Burbank Elementary School community about an important hiring decision made this week.

As you know, we have been working diligently in our search for an Interim Burbank Principal for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year since Ms. Maurao's announcement in August.  At the time of our last communication, we were in the final stages of our process following several weeks of resume reviews, interviews, and reference checks.

We are happy to announce that Ms. Marisa Boyajian has been offered the position of Interim Burbank Elementary School Principal, starting on October 16, 2023.  Her contract will be for ~10 months, through June 30, 2024.  Ms. Boyajian is a former Principal in the Lawrence Public Schools, as well as in the Woburn Public Schools.  Most recently, she served as the Director of Human Resources of the Woburn Public Schools.  She brings prior experience as a building leader and as a district leader, so she is a great choice to lead the Burbank during this important time of district reconfiguration and transition.  She is ready for this challenge and thrilled to be a part of the Belmont community.

Her teaching career in public education spans several decades as a member of the Lawrence Public Schools where she served roles including classroom teacher and mathematics specialist.  Her deep knowledge of public education and her breadth of experience will serve her well in this unique, partial year role.  She brings a BS in Psychology from Merrimack College in Andover, MA, as well as a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Endicott College in Beverly, MA.  We are thrilled to have her take this role on.

We are planning a smooth transition as Ms. Maurao departs for her new role and Ms. Boyajian comes in to take over as Burbank’s new Principal.  Belmont is fortunate to have found such a capable and qualified professional to take this important position on.  We hope you join us in welcoming Ms. Boyajian to the Belmont Public Schools family.

This year, we will again run a complete search for a permanent Principal for a July 1, 2024 start date.
