Week2RaffleWinner

Congratulations to the Week 2 Fundraising Raffle Winner...Brian Sodano!

WOW, thank you to everyone who donated last week - we had donations from 20 families totaling over $1,900! Thank you to all of the amazing families who have donated thus far to help us reach our goal of $25,000 this school year.  And congratulations to Brian Sodano, the winner of our Week 2 raffle for a $50 gift card to Trinktisch!  Our total raised this year is now $4,736, which means we have reached 19% of our goal, so let's keep the donations coming so we can keep providing this valuable funding and support to our Burbank community!

As a reminder, the Burbank PTA exists to support our teachers and classroom, where and when the school budget doesn't allow for the additional funding to provide enrichments, teacher reimbursements and staff grants, field trips, Moving On Ceremonies, community events (Fall Social, Lights The Way) and much more.  The Burbank PTA is volunteer run, so every hour of time and dollar donated is all given back to our beloved school.

The PTA estimates that we spend between $75 to $150 per child each calendar year, so the more we are able to raise, the more we are able to give back!  We hope that you will consider making a donation this year to continue all of the valuable PTA contributions make for current and future Burbank students to come.  Every gift, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated!

Save The Date for a Virtual Burbank Library Night Event:

Thurs 12/14 from 7-8pmMore details to come, but we're taking Burbank Library Night back online to help allow more families to attend on a weeknight evening.  This year, we're bringing some music into the mix with some singalongs in addition to some bedtime stories read to us by some amazing Burbank teachers and staff, so mark your calendars now!

1st PTA Community Meeting to Be Schedule in December - Watch for the Survey To Help Pick The Date/Time!Now that we are a few months into the school year, we would loved to get the community together for our first PTA meeting.  This will be an in-person event (likely held at Burbank), and we'd like to see as much participation as possible as family (and teacher!) input, feedback and ideas is what fuels our PTA to keep providing support back to our Burbank community.  Wondering who is on the PTA Board and what it takes to be a board or committee chair?  Come meet us and ask! What are different ways you can get involved?  We would LOVE to tell you about the endless possibilities! Have an idea and think the PTA should consider it?  We're all ears! Keep an eye out next week in the newsletter and via Room Parent communications for a Google Form survey with date/time options and we'll select based on majority of votes.

Sign-Up to Show Our Teachers Appreciation Throughout the Year!Sign-up to show appreciation for our teachers by bringing snacks for the Burbank Staff Meetings!  Each volunteer should buy enough snacks for 20 (we'll have two volunteers per meeting so we can cover the entire staff).  Example snacks include fresh fruit, pretzels, trail mix, popcorn, granola bars, cookies, nuts, etc.  Snacks can be dropped off in the front office on the morning of the meeting. Click here to sign up and thanks for showing our teachers some love!

Volunteer During Your Child's Library Time!Sign up to volunteer to help out in the library when your child's class visits each week!  Your child spends between 15-30 minutes in the library each week and you can be there to help their class check books out, shelving returned books or even reading a book to the class (K and 1st grade classes).  The extra set of hands is greatly appreciated by our Library Aide, Ms. Watson and allows you to be a part of showing your child the wonderful world of children’s literature!  Please use the link HERE to sign up for an upcoming slot for your child's classroom using the tabs along the top to navigate to your child's grade.

Thank You to Belmont Against Racism! The Burbank PTA would like to thank and acknowledge BAR (Belmont Against Racism) for its contribution to the Burbank community. Support the Belmont Public Schools!  Two Important Meetings This Week - Tues 11/14 & Thurs 11/16This week you have the opportunity to impact a critical decision by the Belmont Select Board which will soon be deciding on the size of the funding override for the April 2024 ballot. Passing an override is critical to maintaining the current status of our schools - passing an adequately sized override will enable investments in our schools!

There are two really important meetings happening this week that we need parents to attend. Here are the meeting details:

  • Tuesday 11/14 (6:30 at the Homer Municipal Building Gallery Room 3rd Floor, 19 Moore Street Belmont) (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88044339308; Webinar ID: 880 4433 9308).  Agenda can be viewed here.
    • At Tuesday's meeting, Superintendent Geiser will present budget scenarios for next year that include deep and painful cuts if a sufficient override is not passed in April.
  • Thursday, 11/16 (6:30 Town Hall, Select Board Conference Room 455 Concord Ave., Belmont) (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84926109106; Webinar ID: 849 2610 9106).  Agenda can be viewed here.
    • Thursday's meeting is a public hearing on the school budget.

If you can only attend one meeting, Thursday is the most important.  This is the only public meeting scheduled, and a big turnout will be an important statement that parents and other concerned residents want adequate funding for our schools.

Going in person is the most powerful way to help. If you can’t attend in person, the next best thing is attending virtually and making a comment in favor of an override that protects our schools from additional cuts and also allows for key investment.  If you'd like to email the Select Board Members asking them to invest in our schools, we have included the Select Board email addresses below.
