First Day of School! Woohoo!

Greetings,

Well summer has flown by and it is the first day of school! We cannot wait to have your child join us at Winn Brook. Our custodians and office staff and teachers have worked this summer to be sure the building is clean, shiny and classrooms are ready for your child!

It looks like the weather will test our flexibility in the morning. We will have students line up in the designated spaces rain or shine. We will open doors and head inside promptly at 8:40. Please remember that we will not be allowing parents in the building at drop off. We will have adults available to help students transition into school. After 8:50, children will need to enter in through the front door of the school.

We would like to introduce you to several new staff members. In 4th grade we have Winn Brook's own Will Pennington and Devon Kelleher. We are so pleased to add them to our team. Our new Art teacher is Amanda Lamoretti. In First grade, we welcome back Caeli Fraher. We have a new Reading Specialist, Sara Chafkin and we welcome Kim Deninger to our Special Education Department. We have 3 new professional Aides; Natalie Boyce, Susan Darr and Kate Hallen and a new lunch monitor, Joani Jasset. We are so excited to have such a caring, skilled and professional group of folks join our Winn Brook family!

We also have a shiny, new website that reflects the genius of Natalya Bochkov, our webmaster.

The weather this summer inhibited our Peace Rock distribution, but know that that work is on going and this fall we will finish that project.

In the health a safety department, we have replaced the filters in all of the air purifiers, and will continue with many of the same protocols that we so successfully followed last year. This year we will continue to be masked indoors unless we are eating lunch or snack. We are currently spaced at 6 feet for eating. We have also slightly shortened our eating time and lengthened our recess times. In the classrooms we will occasionally gather together, which is different than last year, but we will only do this for short periods of group work, play and brief meetings on the rug. Students will continue to have assigned seats and desks are arranged in rows facing forward.

It will be extremely important that we all do our part in following the symptom checker. Please do not send your child to school if they are ill. This will be critical to helping us maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. Please click on this link to see the most up to date information about the symptom checker. Thank you for your compliance with this very important health requirement.

Just a reminder that on Thursday we will dismiss at 11:50.

Last year we had a theme of mishaps and magic. While both mishaps and magic will continue to be a part of every year, this year we are Going Places @ Winn Brook. It is going to be our best year yet!

We will see you in the morning!
