Updates and Announcements

Good Afternoon Wellington Families,

I hope that you are having a great weekend.  It was a pleasure to see so many of you at the movie night on Friday. Thanks to the PTO for putting on a fabulous event.  I am writing to share several updates with you.

Early Release Days:

This Wednesday as well as Wednesdays the 27th and November 3rd are early release days for parent/guardian-teacher conferences.  Dismissal is at 11:40 and no lunch will be served.

Picture Day:

This Wednesday is also school picture day for students in grades K -4.  Please check the PTO website for additional information.

School Advisory Council:

We are looking for three parent/guardian volunteers to be members of our Wellington School Advisory Council (SAC).  This is a mandated body that helps to consult on our School Improvement Plan as well as big picture issues that impact our school and community. Please send me an email by Thursday if you are interested in being on our SAC.  If we have more than two parents interested, our PTO will conduct an election.  It is important for our SAC to have wide representation of our community, so please do consider offering your time for this important work. Once our final group is in-place, we will determine times before or after school when the group will be available to meet.

Pool Testing:

As you saw from the Superintendent Phelan's email, pool testing will begin at the Wellington School on Thursday for those who have consented to have their children participate in the program.  More information about the process including how to prepare your children for it will be sent out in a separate email.

Affinity Groups:

We are thrilled to share that we will be forming affinity groups at each of our elementary schools. Affinity groups are designated “safe spaces,” intended to support and amplify the voices of individuals with a particular identity who have historically been marginalized.  The affinity groups we are piloting this year will be for students who identify as Black or Brown.  Students will have the opportunity to share their experiences, connect with fellow peers who may have had similar experiences in school, and build a trusting relationship among each other. These groups will meet for thirty minutes every two weeks during the school day and will be facilitated by a trained member of our staff.

As we begin the planning process, we would like to know who might be interested in having their child participate.  Once we have an idea of the number of children and their grades, we will create a schedule and reach out to interested families to confirm their participation and launch our program.

Please fill out this form by next Friday, October 22 to let us know if you might be interested in having your child(ren) participate.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for sharing your children with us.

With warmest regards,

Heidi Paisner, Principal
