Tuesday Updates

Dear Wellington Families,

We hope this email finds you and your families well.  We had such a fun spirit day on Friday.  In this world that is in need of love, caring, and repair, it was wonderful to see our children looking ahead to their futures with creativity and optimism. We are writing to share a few updates and reminders before the holiday weekend.

Our Values

Our work as a staff over the past few months has focused on using an equity lens to translate our core values into norms and classroom expectations. Last week we did a deep dive into our school expectations to analyze their alignment with our values.  We are working together to update our school rules to ensure that we are setting high expectations for all learners while honoring the backgrounds and cultural capital that each child brings to school each day.  Additionally, over the upcoming months our staff will be working with Safe Schools for LGBTQ+ Youth to continue to take steps to create a community that feels welcoming and affirming for all of our students, staff, and families.

Vacation

Tomorrow, Wednesday, is an early release day.  Dismissal will be at 11:40 and no lunch will be served.  There is no school on Thursday and Friday.

Cold Weather

The cold weather is upon us.  Please remember to send your children to school with winter gear as we play outside for recess almost every day - whenever the weather is safe to do so.

A Note from Our Nurses

At-home COVID Test Kit Distribution

Belmont Public Schools will distribute COVID take-home tests the week of November 20th. These tests will provide families the opportunity to test students prior to the return of school on Monday, November 28. There is no official sign-up for these tests. They will be sent home by your child’s classroom teacher.

Here are some of the recommended uses for the COVID at-home test kits:

  • Recommended use for return from Thanksgiving break

    • Test on Sunday, November 27, or Monday morning, November 28 prior to returning to school

    • Test again during the week of November 27.

  • Other recommendations for at-home antigen tests are when an individual is:

    • Experiencing symptoms (test before returning to school)

    • Deemed to be a close contact (test on day 5 or later)

Please remember to report all positive cases HERE

As a reminder, we are a mask friendly district and encourage families and staff to discuss their comfort level with mask wearing in large gatherings during this holiday season.

The iHealth test kits have either a July or August 2022 expiration date printed on the boxes. Please note that the expiration dates have been extended and these test kits can be used for at least 6 months past the date on the box.  Use this link to check the most updated expiration of your iHealth test kit.

In this season we are incredibly thankful to be part of a warm, collaborative, and supportive community. We feel honored to work with such a talented staff, caring families, and fabulous children.  We wish you and your families a break filled with joy and togetherness.

With warmest regards,

Heidi and Molly
