Dear Music Parents:
For the past 50 years, POMS (Parents of Music Students) has been working to support music education in the Belmont public schools through fundraising, volunteering and special events. When COVID-19 hit, we faced the same challenges as arts organizations everywhere: dwindling donations. Still, we stood firm in our commitment to Belmont’s band, orchestra, choral and general music students, providing financial support for a virtual band camp, drumsticks and buckets for socially distanced playing at the middle school, equipment for a new Modern Band course at the high school, our annual college scholarships, a workshop for music teachers on teaching remotely, and other impactful programs.
Now, after a long wait, music throughout Belmont Public Schools is returning to normal. Students are playing and singing together, and an array of exciting performances is just around the corner as we enter the holiday season.
Please join us to celebrate this turning point by donating to POMS during our annual fundraising drive, which kicks off this coming Tuesday, November 30 – Giving Tuesday.
Your tax-deductible contribution will enable POMS to help music educators at all six of our town’s schools build on students’ renewed energy and enthusiasm. With your help, we can continue to enhance the experience of all music students through a variety of initiatives including:
- Funding enrichment activities such as guest conductors and visiting artists
- Supporting additional playing opportunities, such as Chenery’s winter ensembles
- Contributing to the purchase of new instruments, equipment and technology
- Providing support for events, such as last spring’s outdoor Jazz Fest
Help POMS keep the momentum going strong by donating this Giving Tuesday or by the end of the year. Thank you for your generous support!
