Dear BPS Colleagues and Parent/Teacher Ensemble Members,
For the past several years in Belmont we have put together two musical ensembles comprised mainly of parents and teachers from our schools. The clever names we have given these groups are the “Parent/Teacher Chorus” and the “Parent/Teacher Band”. The main purpose of these ensembles is to gather with good people and enjoy making music together. It is also a wonderful opportunity for our students to see adults engaged in lifelong learning.
I am writing today to invite you to sign up for the Parent/Teacher CHORUS, which will begin rehearsals in January, and/or the Parent/Teacher BAND, which will start up in early March. As you will see from the sign-up forms, participation in these ensembles is open to EVERYONE regardless of your level of experience or skill. Anyone who wants to sing is welcome to join the chorus, and anyone who even “once-upon-a-time” played a band instrument is welcome to join the band. We can even help provide instruments for those who need them.
Both ensembles will rehearse on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:00 PM, at Chenery Middle School.
Chorus Dates: Rehearsals January 7, 14, 21; February 4, 11. Concert Feb. 13, 7 PM @ CMS.
Band Dates: Rehearsals March 10, 17, 24, 31; April 7, 14. Concert April 16, 7 PM @ CMS
If you are still reading this message then you are at least mildly intrigued in signing up. Here are some details that I hope will encourage you to click those links and join our ensembles.
We have two amazing people committed to directing these ensembles, both with strong ties to the music program here in Belmont. This year we are fortunate to have Bill Pappazisis returning to Belmont to direct the Parent/Teacher Chorus. Bill retired from his position as Director of Visual and Performing Arts in Belmont in 2012, and has since returned to work in that same capacity for the Arlington Public Schools. Many of you know Bill from the eleven years he spent working in Belmont, but you may not know that for the past 30+ years he has been regarded as one of the finest choral directors in New England, and that he is one of the most sought-after choral clinicians in our region. It will be wonderful having Bill direct the Parent/Teacher Chorus this year.
Directing the Parent/Teacher Band once again this year will be John McLellan who retired in 2018 from directing the bands at Chenery Middle School, a position he held for approximately 458 years. During that time, John was a source of encouragement and inspiration to multiple generations of Belmont music students. John remains a beloved figure in our community, and we are incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to continue our musical adventures with him through the Parent/Teacher Band.

If you need any more convincing, or if you have questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Have a wonderful day, and I will look forward to making music with you in these ensembles!
