Dear CMS Band Parents,
We are writing to inform you of a recent development in the CMS Music Department. Sharon Phipps informed us last week that she would not be returning to CMS this fall, as she has decided to move on to a new opportunity outside of Belmont. Ms. Phipps was an incredibly dedicated teacher in our music program for many years, and we are grateful for all of her work with the music students in Belmont. We wish her all the best as she moves on to explore new challenges and opportunities in her career.
As a team, we worked very hard to fill this teaching position over the past week. In just a few days we had dozens of applicants who were eager to come to work in a community that places such a high value on music education. We are thrilled to tell you that we have hired Mr. Loren McCready to join the music faculty at CMS. Mr. McCready is a recent masters graduate from the University of Indiana, which is one of the very best music programs in the world. He is a clarinetist and oboist who also specializes in educational technology. Mr. McCready is new to the Boston area, and we are very excited to have him begin his Massachusetts teaching career with us here in Belmont.
Mr. McCready will join Ms. Viscardi and Ms. Riccio in the band program at CMS. They will also be working closely with our new BHS Band Director, Ms. Alley Lacasse. When your band students prepare to return to school, they will be greeted by:
- Grade 5 Band: Ms. Viscardi, Ms. Riccio & Mr. McCready
- Grade 6 Band: Ms. Riccio & Mr. McCready
- Grade 7 Band: Mr. McCready & Ms. Viscardi
- Grade 8 Band: Ms. Viscardi & Ms. Riccio
We are looking forward to welcoming students back into the Band Room at CMS at the start of school. Enjoy your last days of summer vacation, and thank you as always for your continuing support of arts education in our schools.
