Enrollment is OPEN for the 2021-2022 Grade 4 Beginning Strings program! All lessons will be taught by Ms. Dagon, who teaches orchestra students in grades 4 and 5.  Ms. Dagon will visit your child’s classroom soon to introduce the instruments. Students may select VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, or BASS. (Note: participation is OPTIONAL)

All 5th Graders will be meeting the Chenery music teachers this week to learn about their options for music classes this year, which include Chorus, Orchestra or Band. Once your child is ready to make their choice for the year, these instructions will help you sign them up, rent an instrument if necessary, pay participation fees (band/orchestra only) or apply for fee waivers/scholarships.

We are hopeful that there will not be any distancing restrictions in addition to mask wearing. This would allow us to use the art and music classrooms in each building and go back to a more normal instructional model than we were in at any point last year.

In partnership with Music for Food, an international organization that engages and teaches about hunger and food insecurity, the Belmont Orchestra students in grade 6-12 have creatively collaborated on a virtual performance piece, D Major Jam, by Jessie Montgomery.

Each year the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) holds district festivals across the state for band, chorus, orchestra and jazz ensemble. Belmont High School students are eligible to audition for the MMEA Northeast District Senior Festival by preparing a solo piece for audition. This year, auditions took place remotely via pre-recorded videos. With the help of their BHS music teachers, 61 BHS students prepared audition videos for consideration by the MMEA-NED panel of adjudicators.

If you have rented an instrument from David French Music you can pick up your instrument at Belmont High School during the following times. This will be a contactless pickup. Families will remain in vehicles. Please wear masks and if possible, hold up a sign with your student’s name and the type of instrument you are picking up.
