6th Grade Band meets four times per cycle as a large ensemble, building on the individual and collective skills that were learned in Grade 5.
7th Grade Band. Students will need an instrument, binder and some enthusiasm for the first rehearsal. All rehearsals are located in the smaller Band Room in the music hallway. Students can leave their instruments in the large Band Room in the lockers.
In addition to regular band class, students will take advantage of the after school opportunities. They include Chenery Winds on Mondays from 2:30-3:30pm, Jazz Band on Thursdays from 2:45-4:00pm, Flute and Doublereed Ensemble on Friday afternoons.
8th Grade Band is comprised of 8th Grade students of wind and percussion instruments. Most have been studying their instrument for three or four years while some may be just beginning their career in instrumental music. Generally, the band numbers between 60 -75 players and meets four days out of the six-day cycle.
As we rehearse as an ensemble- not as individuals, you will have to do work outside the classroom so that others are not held back. Mastery IS possible but it takes effort and this effort is made all the more effective when you have individual guidance. If you can't get lessons with a professional instructor, please consider making appointments with me after school.
During the school day, we will rehearse the curricular bands of 6th Grade Band, 7th Grade Band, and 8th Grade Band. After school, on Mondays, we will continue the pursuit of even more challenging material with the Chenery Winds, meeting from 2:30 - 3:30 pm each Monday afternoon. This is an auditioned group, and secondary auditions will take place as the Fall progresses.
