May 1, 2022

Dear CMS Community,

We have a busy week ahead!

Lower School Math MCAS will take place this Thursday and Friday. Please encourage your child(ren) to have a good breakfast, bring a water bottle, and a book to school on these days.

Our 8th graders will have their first special event of the spring with the “Blackout” dance on Friday at CMS. This is not a formal event. See details below about ticket purchase and more.

Finally, it is Teacher Appreciation Week! This is a wonderful opportunity to express our gratitude to our educators who give our children all they have every day. This has been especially true throughout the pandemic. Please take a moment to reach out to your child(ren)’s teachers. Our PTO is also sponsoring some fun ways to celebrate our educators. Click HERE to learn more.

Wishing everyone a happy week ahead.

A BIG congratulations to Grade 8 Science Teacher Jon Marks who was recognized by the Foundation for Belmont Education as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year for 2022 at CMS! The Outstanding Teacher Awards (OTA) recognize the extraordinary contributions made by teachers in the Belmont Public Schools.  Community members, including high school and middle school students, may nominate a teacher they feel deserves this special designation.  Honorees are selected and the entire community is invited to celebrate with them at a ceremony on May 5, 2022. Please join me in celebrating Jon and his excellence in teaching!

The Belmont Wellness Coalition created a  survey in order to better understand the needs of parents concerning issues related to youth mental health and substance misuse. This data will assist the BWC in planning future programming. Your participation is completely anonymous and greatly appreciated. Please click HERE to take the survey. Thank you for your important participation.

We invite all students and their families to join us as we celebrate diversity and culture in the new digital version of a cookbook started years ago at CMS. In the first edition, thirty-six countries were represented, and each recipe was submitted by a Chenery family or staff member and was representative of their cultural heritage. We will be replicating this approach in the second edition. Please click HERE for more information and directions on how to share YOUR loved recipes as we celebrate the many cultures represented at our school. Please direct all questions to chenerycooks@belmontschools.net managed by our wonderful librarian, Karen Duff.
