April 2, 2022
Dear CMS Community,
Last Wednesday during homeroom we worked on part two of our CMS Learns: Building Awareness for a Stronger School Community. Our focus was on microaggressions - understanding what they are, how to respond if you are a victim or witness of a microaggression, as well as ways to respond if we commit a microaggression. Student feedback showed gratitude for learning about this topic as well as wanting more information. Please click HERE to see the screencast provided to students. Our next lesson on April 12 will be about how to be an ally and an upstander. I will share the slides for that lesson in our newsletter next week.
A reminder that students must leave the building after any school sponsored or BASEC after school activity. Students must be supervised by an adult at all times. We have had students remain in the building after PTO clubs or extra help and some vandalism of our bathrooms and hallways has occurred. This is also a safety concern. Please remind your child that he/she/they must leave the building after any activities.
As we enter April, my very best wishes and a peaceful month to those observing Ramadan. To learn more about Ramadan, click HERE.
Wishing everyone a purposeful week ahead.
Karla B. Koza, Principal
IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES
CHENERY HATE ON TIKTOK
We have had rising concerns about CMS hate sites and posting on TikTok. Some of the content posted by students is mean, racist, homophobic, and entirely disrespectful to students and the adults who work in our building. Please have a conversation with your child about TikTok and the importance of character online. A student’s digital footprint can last forever and impact their future opportunities. Please click here for an article on understanding TikTok.

UPCOMING SPECIAL PTO MEETING WITH SCHOOL COMMITTEE CANDIDATES
On Wednesday April 6th, we will be having our next general PTO meeting. This meeting will be special because it will be a chance to meet the current school committee candidates, Jeff Liberty and Amy Checkoway. They are eager to meet parents, hear about the needs at Chenery, and answer questions. Please join us! Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85852305441?pwd=YUNtMjI3ZjR4cy9taW9zQTlyeGVuZz09 ID: 858 5230 5441 Passcode: 962718
PTO CLUBS START APRIL 28

Registration officially opens on Wednesday, April 6th at 7am. The registration process is as follows:
- Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.
- Payment by MasterCard or Visa will be required during the initial registration, unless a student is placed on the waitlist or requesting financial assistance. Waitlist families will only pay if a space becomes available.
- Registration will close on Wednesday, April 13th or sooner if all spaces are filled.
- There is a waitlist option, so if a club is full, you can still sign up and see if a space becomes available. We do have movement off the waitlist each session.
Financial Assistance may be available (approval by Chenery Administration), but is limited to 1 club per student. Detailed information about each club is on the registration website: https://chenery.schooltwist.org Further questions? Please contact Denise Steiner and Anna Churchill at CheneryPTOClubs@gmail.com. Want to join our team? We’re looking for help with club management tasks. We'd love to have your help!
Chenery Winds performed brilliantly at the MICCA Large Group Festival this afternoon in Foxborough MA, and was awarded a Silver Medal. Congratulations to our student musicians!

CHENERY COOKS! - A MULTICULTURAL COLLECTION OF RECIPES FROM THE CHENERY COMMUNITY
We invite all students and their families to join us as we celebrate diversity and culture in the new digital version of a cookbook started years ago at CMS. In the first edition, thirty-six countries were represented, and each recipe was submitted by a Chenery family or staff member and was representative of their cultural heritage. We will be replicating this approach in the second edition. Please click HERE for more information and directions on how to share YOUR loved recipes as we celebrate the many cultures represented at our school. Please direct all questions to email@example.com managed by our wonderful librarian, Karen Duff.

Does your child ride a school bus or can’t make it to the store when it is open? If so, they can pick up a green order form outside of the school store and follow the directions on the form. Students can use the order form to place and receive an order so they don’t miss the bus.
