March 13, 2022
Dear CMS Community,
As we head into the second week of March, we are busy with all sorts of school activities and learning. Thank you to all of our families, students and staff for working hard to support our new mask optional environment. I want to reiterate that in order for all students and staff to feel comfortable, we must support individual choice with masking.
Last Wednesday, we had our second Community Day. This opportunity for students to connect, learn about each other, and have some fun, went well. This is just one way we are working on helping each other value our differences as well as surface what binds us. In our surveys sent to students a few weeks ago, they identified “See each other as human beings who all need to feel accepted” as the most important way for all students to feel safe and happy at school.
This week, we will capitalize on that student input as we start a learning series called CMS Learns: Building Awareness for A Stronger School Community. It will focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. The goal is to build the capacity of all of us around what this looks like in school. We will show short video presentations with students on a bi-weekly basis during homeroom on Wednesdays. We will start this week by calibrating our understanding to key terms like, equity, equality, diversity, inclusion and social justice. I will share all the slides in this series as we go.
Last, I’d like to draw your attention to the second part of a very popular series with Dr. Brittany Jordan-Arthur. On Friday, March 18th at 8:00AM, Dr. Jordan-Arthur will continue to help adults by providing excellent context and practical strategies for supporting our children as they navigate the many stressors facing teenagers today. Please see the details below.
Wishing everyone a purposeful week ahead.

WORLD LANGUAGE SELECTION - GRADE 5
As you may know, your 5th grade student recently participated in several presentations from our world language department to help them choose which language to take as 6th graders next year. Please see this letter from our world language director. Below you will find the link through which your child may register for their world language class. A few things to note:
- Even if you are not coming back to CMS next year there is a question for you to answer. Every student should fill out the form.
- You will confirm your World Language selection on the official Google form through THIS LINK
- In order to avoid multiple responses for a student, each student must use their Google - “belmontschools.net” account (preferably on their home computer) to access the Google form. This is the only way to confirm and complete the World Language course selection. Parents and children should work together to enter their selection when they are available to log into their Google - “belmontschools.net” account. If you are having difficulty with signing in, please watch THIS VIDEO demonstrating how you are to log into your child’s belmontschools.net google account.
- This form is due FRIDAY, March 25th.
Thank you so much, and don’t hesitate to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.

Thank you for your important participation.
BELMONT LGBTQ+ALLIANCE UPDATE
We feel it is important that students feel empowered to lift up their voices and take action to protest the regressive and frankly hateful actions against transgender youth and their families being taken by the Texas governor and others across the country. Learning of these actions and others against LGBTQ+ youth has a deleterious impact on all LGBTQ+ youth, their families, and allies, including those in Belmont. We will do whatever we can to support our youth, and we thank you for doing the same. CLICK HERE for more information from the Alliance. Click HERE for their website.

CHENERY COOKS! - A MULTICULTURAL COLLECTION OF RECIPES FROM THE CHENERY COMMUNITY
We invite all students and their families to join us as we celebrate diversity and culture in the new digital version of a cookbook started years ago at CMS. In the first edition, thirty-six countries were represented, and each recipe was submitted by a Chenery family or staff member and was representative of their cultural heritage. We will be replicating this approach in the second edition. Please click HERE for more information and directions on how to share YOUR loved recipes as we celebrate the many cultures represented at our school. Please direct all questions to email@example.com managed by our wonderful librarian, Karen Duff.
