November 14, 2021

Dear CMS Community,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I want to remind families of a few important operational items for the week ahead:

  • Please have your child bring a water bottle to school. We have filling stations throughout the school and would like to avoid waste of plastic cups.
  • Please be sure your child brings his/her/their charged chromebook to school each day. Many students forget to charge or bring their chromebooks. We have a limited amount we can provide to students when this happens.
  • Please remember there is no parent parking, drop off or pick up in our lot in the morning for arrival or in the afternoon for dismissal. This is a serious safety issue with busses and students walking to the entrances.
  • Please be sure your child is bundled up for colder weather. Students will be outside in the morning and during recess if the real feel temperature is 17 degrees or higher. Coats, hats, gloves and warm shoes are essential. We use our outdoor spaces not only for exercise and fresh air, but also as a mitigation strategy to keep students separated during our busiest times of the school day.

Thank you for your partnership every day. We look forward to a great week ahead!

Best Regards,

Karla B. Koza, Principal

SOLAR PANEL PROJECT

As you may know, BPS has been working on a solar panel project that will finally begin on Monday, November 15. It is a two week process for the crew to complete the placement of the panels and all connected equipment. This project was spearheaded by the Belmont High School Solar Action Club and will be completed in partnership with Belmont Light and Sun Bug Solar. This project represents a culmination of effort and action that will be an excellent learning tool for the students and CMS. Thank you to the many individuals who have worked to make this happen.

LUNCH INSIDE STARTING NOVEMBER 15

Beginning on November 15, the tents on our campus will be removed as the colder weather sets in. Due to the severe space restrictions in our building, all students will eat lunch indoors in our cafeteria. We will continue to follow the routines we have put in place. Here is a general outline of how lunch will work:

  • All students will eat in the cafeteria.
  • Students are assigned to tables by team.
  • Lunch remains by grade (no mixing of other grade levels)
  • Students are to have masks off only while eating. When talking, students are required to put masks back on.
  • Students eat and then may head directly outside for recess. We find that most students are ready to head outdoors in under 10 minutes.
  • Students who wish to remain indoors in the cafeteria will be expected to keep masks on and distance when possible.
  • We will continue to have students assist in cleaning tables with disinfecting wipes.

When these changes take effect, we will continue with our layered and highly effective mitigation approaches. They include:

  • The use of masks indoors except when eating.
  • Regular hand washing and sanitizing.
  • All adults are fully vaccinated.
  • Families and staff are using the symptom checker to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms

We have been pleased with the extremely limited spread of COVID19 in our school setting. In addition, the knowledge that other schools in other areas have been eating lunch indoors in cafeterias at 3ft spacing since the beginning of the year with little to no spread is highly encouraging. We will continue to closely monitor our strategies, and will be ready to shift if we find that this is not working.

STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

REOCCURING NEWS & RESOURCES

CMS IS UNDERSTAFFED - YOUR HELP NEEDED

We continue to experience a shortage of professional aides, building substitutes and cafeteria staff. This impacts students directly in meeting educational needs, having needed support in large classes, having to pull professional aides to cover classes when teachers are absent, and students needing to wait longer to get lunch. If you or someone you know is interested in working in our school I encourage you to apply. CLICK HERE to learn more.

BPS Health Protocols

There are updated guidelines and protocols that are important for families to review to understand what happens when a student presents symptoms of COVID, tests positive for COVID, or is determined to be a close contact. Please check the BPS Nursing Page on a regular basis. Details on the Test and Stay protocol can be found HERE.

It is critically important to review and complete a symptom checker (found HERE) if your child is exhibiting any COVID19 symptoms. Please do not send your child to school sick..

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle each day. We have filling stations but not access to traditional bubblers.

Cheetah Spot
Does your child ride a school bus or can’t make it to the store when it is open? If so, they can pick up a green order form outside of the school store and follow the directions on the form. Students can use the order form to place and receive an order so they don’t miss the bus.
