October 24, 2021

Dear CMS Community,

What a gorgeous weekend! I hope everyone was able to get outside and enjoy the foliage and fresh air.

We have a busy week of learning and connecting this week. Your children are immersed in creativity, exploration, and collaboration as they build skills and spark curiosity in all content areas. A reminder that we have an early release on Wednesday for family/teacher conferences.

In addition, I want to remind our students and families that masks are required while indoors at our school as well as on our busses. We have been getting reports of students getting onto busses without masks on or without any masks with them at all. This cannot happen and is a violation of safety. Please be sure your child has a mask and understands the town and BPS expectations - masks must be worn indoors and on buses at all times. Thank you for your help.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead.

Best Regards,

Karla B. Koza, Principal

 VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Belmont Public Schools are currently implementing vaccine mandates for all educators and staff. We are continuing to prioritize ensuring high vaccination rates amongst all adults who work in our schools. The Belmont Public Schools encourages all families, students, staff, and school community members who are eligible to get vaccinated.

As presented at the Belmont School Committee meeting on September 21, 2021, anyone –including parents and family members who wish to volunteer in our school buildings during the 2021-2022 school year – will need to show proof of vaccination. Volunteer may scan or provide a photocopy (or email a photo) to the school administrative assistant when checking in at the school’s main office for the first time this year. Additionally, Individuals who plan to volunteer in any of the district schools can email a PDF or photo of their vaccination card directly to Human Resources (rleeb@belmont.k12.ma.us) in advance of their first volunteer date. All vaccination card copies will be kept securely under lock and key, and individual vaccination status will be handled confidentially by the school and central administration staff.

SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS WITH INTERNET & SOCIAL MEDIA USE

Our children use all kinds of hashtags and slang that we should all be aware of. HERE is an article of a list parents should be aware of.

REOCCURING NEWS & RESOURCES

CMS IS UNDERSTAFFED - YOUR HELP NEEDED

We continue to experience a shortage of professional aides, building substitutes and cafeteria staff. This impacts students directly in meeting educational needs, having needed support in large classes, having to pull professional aides to cover classes when teachers are absent, and students needing to wait longer to get lunch. If you or someone you know is interested in working in our school I encourage you to apply. CLICK HERE to learn more.

PRIVATE SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS

The Chenery Middle School has developed the following guidelines to ensure that the private school application process runs smoothly for students, teachers, and counselors: CMS Private School Application Overview 2021-2022.  This information can also be found on the CMS website: https://www.belmont.k12.ma.us/bps/cms/School-Info/Departments/Guidance.  Please contact your student’s school counselor if you have any questions or need additional support with this process.

 BPS Health Protocols

There are updated guidelines and protocols that are important for families to review to understand what happens when a student presents symptoms of COVID, tests positive for COVID, or is determined to be a close contact. Please check the BPS Nursing Page on a regular basis. Details on the Test and Stay protocol can be found HERE.

It is critically important to review and complete a symptom checker (found HERE) if your child is exhibiting any COVID19 symptoms. Please do not send your child to school sick..

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle each day. We have filling stations but not access to traditional bubblers.

Cheetah Spot
Does your child ride a school bus or can’t make it to the store when it is open? If so, they can pick up a green order form outside of the school store and follow the directions on the form. Students can use the order form to place and receive an order so they don’t miss the bus.
