Chenery Middle School Update - September 26, 2021

September 26, 2021

Dear CMS Community,

We are excited to have families visit us virtually to learn more about your child’s experience at CMS at our Back to School Night. It will be held virtually (no in person meetings) on Wednesday, September 29 from 6:00-8:00PM. The format includes a whole school welcome and the opportunity for families to virtually meet their children’s core and encore teachers. Teachers will present information on the content of their classes as well as what makes their classroom communities special.  Please click HERE for the schedule for Wednesday night

Please consider taking advantage of the vaccine clinic being held right here at Chenery. A team of vaccinators will come onsite to our school to provide vaccinations on Thursday, September 30, 2021, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, in the Chenery large community room. Please click HERE for more information.

All students will be vaccinated free of charge regardless of insurance coverage. If insured please enter insurance information in the online registration. Once registered online there is no need to bring an insurance card to the clinic.

I look forward to meeting any CMS parent on Friday at 9:00am for the PTO sponsored virtual coffee with the principal. Join the  Zoom Meeting HERE.

Grade 5 families and students - I hope you can join us between 5:30-7:00pm on Friday to enjoy an ice-cream on the PTO and socialize a bit. We will meet under the big tent.

Last, please consider joining the Chenery PTO in their annual appeal.  You should have received an email and a flyer that came home with your child. Because this is the only fundraiser we do, this is your chance to give! Please consider a donation

Best Regards,

Karla B. Koza

BPS Health Protocols

There are updated guidelines and protocols that are important for families to review to understand what happens when a student presents symptoms of COVID, tests positive for COVID, or is determined to be a close contact. Please check the BPS Nursing Page on a regular basis. Details on the Test and Stay protocol can be found HERE.

It is critically important to review and complete a symptom checker (found HERE) if your child is exhibiting any COVID19 symptoms. Please do not send your child to school sick.

There is also information about pool testing. The most effective pool testing occurs when as many students are part of the testing as possible. CMS currently has 43% participation through the parent waiver. Please consider helping us with this important strategy to keep students in school and learning with each other. If your student is signed up for this program and is identified as a close contact of someone in a school-based setting who has Covid, they will be allowed to take part in the test and stay program. If they are NOT signed up for the program, they will have to go home and quarantine as per our Covid health protocols. Click HERE for the Superintendent’s update.

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle each day. We have filling stations but not access to traditional bubblers.

We are excited to welcome families into our virtual doors for CMS Back to School Night. There will be no in person meetings.

Parents, please review THIS SCHEDULE to find the virtual meeting links to join your children’s teachers to learn more about the learning and connecting happening in their classrooms. Please also see this School Counseling Resource Page for information on how to contact each grade level guidance counselor. We are also very fortunate to have Ms. Paula Lazar, Ms. Mollie Bourne, and Ms. Ashley Peterson as our school social workers.

After School Opportunities for Students

Please see our website HERE to learn more about school and PTO sponsored clubs and activities. We are still working on final details for some clubs. To register or apply for a fee waiver, print and fill out The Application Form. You may pay the activities fee with a check made out to the Town of Belmont at the CMS main office or online here.

Lower School Math Team

Ms. Panzarella will be running the lower school math team this year. It will meet on Mondays from 2:30 to 3:30. Meetings will begin in mid-October. Please be on the lookout for more information about signing up in the near future!

Best Buddies Club

Best Buddies is back at CMS! This national organization brings students with disabilities in friendship with those students in our regular education classes. Please encourage your child to join this impactful and fun group! Click HERE for more information.

Traffic and Parking Lot Reminders

Thank you to our families as we adjust to our new traffic pattern. We appreciate your support as we try a new way to help our students be and feel safe. Our biking community kindly requests that parents dropping off please not park and block the curb cuts and crosswalks so bikers are able to safely navigate.

Parents are NOT allowed to drop off or pick up their children in our parking lot. This disrupts bus flow and presents a safety risk for students. Please do not PARK in the lot during drop of and pick up. We have very limited spaces which must be available for staff and faculty. Thank you for your help.

Picture Day Coming to CMS - October 5

  • No forms need to be returned by parents.
  • Photo identification cards/tickets will be sent to the school prior to Picture Day.
  • The cards are labeled individually for each student and sorted alpha then separated by classroom.
  • The cards are to be distributed by the school staff member (teacher/coordinator/parent volunteer) to each student as they approach the photographer and then hand to the photographer before the student removes their mask for their photograph.
  • These cards are very important as they are the only way we have to identify the student in the photograph.  Please handle with care!
  • No groups photos will be taken and all photography will take place outdoors.
  • In the event of inclement weather, our photographers will make every effort to photograph the students using a doorway or overhang.
  • Individual print orders will be mailed directly to the home address as provided on your order.   The preorder option will be available until 10/8/21.   If parents do not order by 10/8/21, they will receive a NO BUY of their child with instructions to go online to order.

 Parent Drop Off Procedure CHANGE!

Last school year, we had far more parent drop off vehicles around the school each morning than in previous years. This created traffic and safety concerns. This summer the CMS administrative team worked with the Belmont Police Department to find a safer route system. Most important to note that the intersection of Washington, Goden, and Oakely will be BLOCKED.

All traffic will be diverted from Washington street to multiple side streets to alleviate some congestion and most importantly, create safer conditions for our students as they navigate crossing streets to get to school. Please be mindful of speed and pay attention to police detail who will help you learn our new system.
