Attendance Line – Upper School (grades 7 and 8): 617-993-5832
ABSENCE: To excuse a student’s absence, parents/guardians must call the Attendance Line by 8:30 AM on the day of the student’s absence. The Attendance Line is available 24 hours, please call and leave a message as soon as you know your child will be out of school. Give your child’s name, grade, date of absence, and a brief reason. It is important to stress that it is the responsibility of the parent to contact the school.
If we do not hear from a parent or guardian excusing the student’s absence, school personnel will make efforts to contact the parents/guardians to verify the absence is excused. The student’s absence will remain unexcused unless we are contacted by parent/guardian. An unexcused absence is considered truancy.
Remember, students who are absent from school may not participate in after school or evening activities on that day.
TARDY: Students should be in homeroom by 7:55 AM. After 7:55, no student will be admitted to homeroom without a tardy pass. All tardy students, including students who were on a late bus, need to check in at the Upper or Lower School offices. If you know your child will be tardy to school, please call the Attendance Line by 8AM on the day they are late. A student’s tardiness will remain unexcused unless we are contacted by a parent/guardian.
DISMISSAL: The attendance lines must also be used to notify us of your plans for student dismissal. Please leave your student’s name, grade, date, and time for dismissal. An adult must enter the main office and sign-out the student at the time of dismissal, at which time the student will be called out of class. No student will be allowed to walk home or meet a parent waiting outside.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Students' participation in one or more of the extracurricular activities offered at Chenery is an important enhancement of the academic program and provides the opportunity to explore a variety of activities. For information about Chenery’s after-school clubs and activities, visit: https://www.belmont.k12.ma.us/bps/cms/Resources/For-Families/Extracurricular-Activities. The PTO also offers afterschool clubs https://www.belmont.k12.ma.us/bps/cms/PTO/Activities/PTO-Clubs
There is a lot of school information found in the Chenery Student Handbook and on the Chenery PTO website:
All students are assigned and will be responsible for a locker for the year. Students should not write on the inside or outside of lockers, or apply stickers, tape, etc. Valuables should not be brought into school and should not be left in lockers. It is building policy that no locks be placed on lockers.
ParentPlus, StudentPlus, and TeacherPlus are parts of the PlusPortals system. ParentPlus is designed for parents to access classroom information including progress reports, homework assignments, schedules, and report cards.
ParentPlus account activation information is e-mailed to every parent of Chenery students. If you do not have an account, or did not receive an e-mail, contact Eileen Buys (firstname.lastname@example.org).
StudentPlus account activation is e-mailed to all Chenery students. The e-mail is sent to their school belmontschools.net account.
Once you have activated your ParentPlus account, there is a mobile app that is available to download from the App Store or Google Play. You can then log into the app using your ParentPlus account. Go to the App Store or Google Play and search for “ParentPlus”.
- Download the app.
- Once the app has downloaded, type in the school name (“Belmont High School” or “Chenery Middle School”).
- Click Register.
- Enter the e-mail address and password you used to create your ParentPlus account. You must already have a ParentPlus account created before you can activate the mobile app. If you need assistance in creating your ParentPlus account, please contact Eileen Buys (email@example.com).
- Once you have registered, you may now view progress reports, attendance, schedules and other information as it becomes available.
- If you have a student in both schools, select the white + sign at the login screen, enter the name of the second school and click Register. You will then be able to toggle between the two schools.
Students should download the StudentPlus iPad app before the start of school. Schedules and other important information will only be available online.
