Chenery Update -Week of October 5th, 2020

July 23, 2021

Dear CMS Community,

I am happy to announce the hiring of two new assistant principals at Chenery Middle School. Both of these values-driven, exceptional leaders are committed to a student-centered approach, dedicated support of faculty and staff, and strong family partnerships.

Mark DiStefano - Assistant Principal of the Upper School

Mark is an experienced middle school social studies educator, team leader, and department chair. His work with curriculum, educational technology, program and staff development will be an asset in his support of our grades 7 and 8 faculty and students. Mark has a B.A. in Political Science from Gettysburg College, an M.Ed. in secondary education from Boston College, and an M.Ed. in education administration from Endicott College.

Ryan Holland - Assistant Principal of Encore & Student Programming

Ryan is an experienced music educator with teacher leader experience and involvement with an array of administrative work including scheduling. Ryan will support the faculty and students in the Encore areas as well as serve as a link to special education as we work on strengthening our student support work at CMS. Ryan has a B.A. in Music Education from George Mason University, a Masters of Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.Ed. in School Leadership from Harvard University.

Nicolette Foundas will be transitioning from the Encore AP role to the Lower School Assistant Principal role. I am looking forward to working with this strong administrative team dedicated to the entire Chenery Middle School community.

I hope that all of our CMS families are enjoying the summer. Hoping August has less rain and more sunny days!

Message from Mark DiStefano, Assistant Principal Upper School

I hope that everyone is enjoying your summer, and you are able to relax and spend time with your loved ones. It is with great excitement that I am able to write this email to you as the Upper School Assistant Principal at Chenery Middle School. I look forward to meeting you all, and spending time getting to know you. I believe that part of our success as a school will be based on a strong sense of community, and I eagerly anticipate getting everyone back in the building, and the energy that comes with the middle school environment, to begin the community building process.

Additionally, I want to let you know more about me. I have spent the last 10 years teaching middle school social studies at P. Brent Trottier Middle School in Southborough, MA. In my time there, I have taught grades 6-8, as well as worked as the social studies department chair and 7th grade team leader and coached the girls basketball team. Outside of school, I live in Framingham with my wife, who is also an educator, and our three daughters.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or just to introduce yourselves. Enjoy the rest of your summer, I look forward to meeting you all!

Message from Ryan Holland, Assistant Principal Encore & Student Programming

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and finding creative ways to refresh and recharge. I am delighted to join the wonderful Belmont community as the Assistant Principal for Encore and Student Programming here at Chenery Middle School and look forward to getting to know and learning from more of you in the coming weeks and months.

I would love to share a little about myself: During my twelve years as a public school educator I have served in a variety of placements including high school guitar teacher, middle school choir director, and elementary general music teacher at schools in Northern Virginia and in Arlington, MA, all while taking on an increasing number of leadership and administrative roles along the way. Most recently I served as a principal-in-residence at schools in both Brookline and in Cambridge. I am very excited to be returning as a middle school administrator at this point in my career. I began my career teaching middle school and have always had a strong desire to support students during these critical years. I currently reside in Boston with my wife, who is a medical professional, along with our two small dogs.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to connect for any reason. I can’t wait to see everyone in September!
