Message from our Principal

Karla Koza, Principal

Dear Chenery Middle School Families:

I am truly excited to be joining Belmont Public Schools as the new principal of the Chenery Middle School. I have dedicated the last twenty years of my career to the field of education, serving as both a middle school and high school English teacher, department head, and most recently, as an assistant principal. The core of my efforts in each role has been to build positive, meaningful relationships with students, support faculty and staff in their own professional growth, and ensure that students and their families are heard and supported. As I take on the role of principal of CMS, I am committed to fostering a school environment where we learn and grow together, and most importantly, where everyone feels safe and valued.

Over the past couple weeks I have met with Superintendent Phelan, Assistant Superintendent Darias, Director of Human Capital and former Chenery principal Mike McAllister, and have begun meeting some of outstanding educators at Chenery. There is great pride associated with the faculty, staff, families, and especially, the students, who serve as the center of a shared commitment of the entire BPS team to know and educate each student.

I am so pleased to have the opportunity to lead such a dedicated and passionate group of educators at Chenery who work tirelessly each day to provide your child with meaningful and innovative instructional practices and a positive learning environment, whether that is under the roof of our building or online. I share your very personal interest in your child’s development as a human being and in fostering a mindset of caring, curiosity and discovery.

As I begin my tenure at the Chenery Middle School, I will formulate a plan to get to know the community over the coming months. I look to all stakeholders to help me best understand our most treasured traditions, what excites our community, where we might look to grow. The input of Chenery families will be very important in this endeavor.

In my next communications, I will provide a variety of ways for us to connect. I hope to meet as many of you as possible during established office hours and/or one on one visits throughout the summer and into the Fall. These connection opportunities may be in person or virtual, depending on your comfort level.

I am honored to be selected to lead Chenery Middle School. I very much look forward to the important work we will do together.
