Extracurricular activities are an important enhancement to the academic program at Chenery Middle School. Through these activities children have the opportunity to explore a variety of interests and develop their talents in different fields. There are several afterschool activity options for your child to participate in sponsored by Chenery Middle School and the PTO.

COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB
Four required meetings per year with Carla Hawkins and Leon Dyer 2:30-3:30. Open to all grades. Meets to organize and participate in community based projects. Service club - NO FEE required. Application required. Application is available here – Deadline is Sept 22nd
UPPER SCHOOL MATH TEAM
Thursdays with TBD 2:30-3:30 Room 317. Open to grades 7 & 8. Competes in the Intermediate Math League of Eastern Mass. There are five meets throughout the year where students compete against other schools.
LOWER SCHOOL MATH TEAM
Ms. Panzarella will be running the lower school math team again this year. It will meet on Mondays, from 2:30 to 3:15. The first meeting and meeting location is currently TBD. Students should listen to morning announcements, the first meeting date will be announced there. Any interested 5th or 6th grade student can sign-up to join the team at our first meeting.
CHENERY STUDENT COUNCIL
Reps must attend 9 out of 12 meetings per year. Thursdays with Leon Dyer and Carla Hawkins 2:30-3:30pm. Open to grades 5-8. Students will have a chance to generate school spirit, plan events, represent student body, and work on creative projects. Application required. Application is available here – Deadline is Sept 16th
CHEETAHZINE
3rd Friday of the month with TBD 2:30-3:30. Cheetahzine is the school newspaper. Participation is limited to 16 students. Students must commit to attending all meetings and commit to completing some independent work (online).

I.D.E.A. CLUB
Every other Thursday with Bhuvana Kaushik and Adam Niles in room 235 from 2:30- 3:00 starting on October 6th. I.D.E.A. stands for inclusion, diversity, engagement, and action. The I.D.E.A. Club is for students in all grades who are looking for a space to talk about social justice issues affecting the Chenery community & beyond and meet others who have similar interests.

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY CLUB
Twice a month on Thursdays with Suzanne Zmijewski 2:30-3:30 Room 202. Open to 8th graders who love history. Students must be willing to work outside the club. Sign up in room 329.
BEST BUDDIES
Twice a month on Wednesday with Leanne Aiello and Beth Manca or Amy Sanchez from 1:15-2:15 in the Large Community Room. Open to all grades. Best Buddies is an international organization and fosters friends for students with disabilities. JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Mondays with Ken Gable 2:45-4:00 Auditorium. Open to all grades.
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Tuesdays with Margot Reavey 2:30-3:30 Auditorium. Open to all grades.
CHAMBER SINGERS
Tuesdays with Sarah Carson 2:30-3:30 Room 141. Open to all grades.
CHENERY WINDS
Thursdays with Joseph Wright 2:30-4:00 in the band room. By audition only.
COURTYARD CLUB
Tuesdays Fall and Spring with Ben Ligon 2:25-3:15 Meets in the courtyard. Open to all grades. Students are involved in a variety of gardening activities. Service club - NO FEE required.
GENDER AND SEXUALITY ALLIANCE
Every other Tuesday with Crystal Waters and Ziza Soares in room 211 from 2:30- 3:30. Open to all grades. Students will learn about LGBTQ+ history and current events, and share a safe space for students of all identities.
YEARBOOK
The CMS Yearbook Club meets twice a month for 1 hour starting in late September to April. Meetings are held on Monday’s from 3:00-4:00pm in room 115. Open to all grades. Participation in any after school or evening activity requires that the student be in school on that day.
FEES: There is a one-time fee of $150.00 that covers your child’s participation in any of the Chenery sponsored afterschool activities that occur throughout the year. If your child is enrolled in the 5th grade music program and you have paid the $250 fee associated with that, it will also cover their participation in any of the above programs.
