Family Newsletter - May 31, 2022

Dear Butler Families,

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather we’re having and the Memorial Day weekend. There are many events between now and the end of the school year. It is a time of mixed emotions where some are excited for the end of the school year and summer while others don’t want to leave the predictability and security of the classroom and their teachers. We have all been through quite a bit recently, so please make sure to take care of yourselves, your children, and each other.

All my best,
Julie Babson

Safety Measures at Butler

There have been many events locally and across the country last week that had the Butler staff review our safety protocols. In addition to the list below, there has been more police presence at the school and discussions at the district level regarding safety measures att each of the school buildings.

  1. All staff wear a picture ID badge which is used to enter the building.
  2. All doors are locked and cameras are at each of the main entry doors.
  3. All visitors must report to the front door of the building. If you are dropping off something for your child, please report to the front door.
  4. Any parent or caregiver who is volunteering must fill out a CORI form, confidentiality form, and show proof of vaccination.
  5. Staff will remain vigilant at recess time where they will be spread out and monitoring all areas where children are playing as well as the access point to the playground and fields.
  6. Staff have practiced fire drills, safety drills, and evacuations in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately, our evacuation procedures were put to the test in March when there was a gas leak near the building. Fortunately, staff and students remained calm and safe throughout the evacuation.
  7. The Emergency Response Team is made up of staff who meet regularly to review and revise emergency procedures. Each member has a two-way radios to use during emergencies.

COVID Testing Updates
SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 29

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, Butler pool test drop off day will be on Tuesday May 31. Be sure to register and label your child’s sample tubes appropriately. If the tube is not labeled and registered correctly, it may not be processed due to the increased demand on CIC staff.

If your child has received a positive result within the past 90 days and receives a pooled test kit, please do not submit a test.

Be sure to check your email if you are participating in pooled testing. If you receive an email from VERITAS, please open it immediately. Individuals who are in a positive pool will have their samples individually tested. This email will contain your child’s individual results. If the result is positive, your child must begin isolation immediately.

All district COVID testing will end on June 8, 2022. Pool Testing will be offered to those who currently have a consent on file. Due to the turnaround time it takes to get supplies and update consent lists, we will not be able to accept new consents. The last distribution of the Take-Home antigen tests will be the week of May 29, 2022.

Thank you to all who have participated in our COVID testing program.

Warm Weather Reminders

The sunshine is here and so are the sunburns! It is important every day, but especially now with warmer weather, that sunscreen becomes part of the morning routine. Many people don’t realize that the sun in the spring is just as strong as it is in late summer.  A sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher applied prior to school will protect your student through the school day, as well as decrease the risk of skin issues later in life. As students are spending more time outside during the school day, please be sure to apply sunscreen before leaving the house each morning.

As students become more active and spend more time outside, they need to increase the amount of fluids they drink. Our school building tends to get warm as summer approaches and students may require more water.  We are noticing an increase in students asking for cups for water during the day. Please remember to send your student to school with a clean water bottle each day.

End of the Year Medication Pickup

Please remember that all student medications in the clinic need to be picked up by parents on or before the last day of school or they will be discarded. No medications can be stored in the school over the summer. EpiPens that have not been picked up by the last school day will be sent home in your child’s backpack.

I am happy to arrange appointments in the fall before school starts for medication drop off and updated health discussions as needed. Feel free to email me if you would like to schedule an appointment. I do check email periodically over the summer but will not be at school until just before the start of school in September.

Physicals for Current 3RD Grade Students

Updated physicals are required for all students entering 4th grade. If you would like to send in your child’s most recent physical dated after January 1 2022, please feel free to do so before the end of the school year.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate these challenging times.

Stay well!
