Dear Butler Families,
We are now more than half way through March and Spring is officially here! As you all know by now, last Thursday was quite an exciting day for Butler School. There was a small gas leak on the Sycamore St. side of the school that required us to evacuate the building before the start of the school day. While it was a cold, rainy day to wait outside, the good news is that the Butler staff sprung into action and did a fantastic job keeping all the children calm and safe while evacuating to St. Luke’s Church before the gas leak was fixed and students were returned to school by 9:30am. We are all hoping for a calmer week this week! Just a reminder that this Wednesday will be our final early dismissal for conferences. Dismissal Wednesday will be 11:40am.
In this newsletter you will find information about:
All my best,
Thanks to everyone who attended the parent/guardian Supporting Children Through Bid Emotions workshop last week. For those of you who weren’t able to attend, here is a video link to watch it https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4sb4wq2usla3bln/AACWg1Z7Yze1Xf6FyVewoxKTa?dl=0.
There will be another workshop on April 1st at noon:
Supporting Students Through Stress: The focus of this webinar is to increase our understanding of the challenges facing students today and spotlight strategies parents and caregivers can use to support students in navigating stress while living full and rewarding lives.
Specifically, this webinar will cover interventions to build resilience and address stress reactions in students. We will discuss approaches to improve communication and understanding, promote resilience, and coach youth through big emotions and stressors. Attention to how COVID-19 and current societal stressors play a role will be addressed throughout.

Completion of MCAS is a requirement for all public school students in grades 3-8 and 10 Massachusetts.. As a reference, here is the link to the page on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website that explains this requirement.
In 2021, Massachusetts took advantage of the flexibilities provided by the federal government. These include cutting the test sessions/total testing time in half. As you can see below, the 2022 test sessions are the same with the exception of minor adjustments to the science tests in grades 5 and 8. (Testing Schedule is available here.)
