Interim Butler Principal Announcement

Dear Butler Elementary School Parents/Guardians,

In my last communication to you on 11/4/2021, I outlined the hiring process we would follow in order to fill the Interim Butler Principal position.  Despite the fact that it was not a traditional process, as interim searches often are not, I promised you at that time that we would “do our best to ensure that we hire the qualified and capable Principal that your children deserve.”  I believe we have made good on that promise.  I am pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Julie Babson, the Interim Principal of the Daniel Butler Elementary School, effective 1/3/2022.

Ms. Babson grew up in Delaware and attended the University of New Hampshire where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies in 1993.  After college she earned her Master’s Degree from UNH in Elementary Education (with a concentration in Reading and Writing) in 1994.  She holds a Principal’s Certification from Endicott College.  Julie is a current Assistant Principal at the Hopkins Elementary School in the Hopkinton, MA Public School system, where she has worked for the last 5 years.  Prior to that she was an elementary classroom teacher in Grades 2, 3, and 5, a career that spanned 21 years from 1995-2016.  If her name sounds familiar to you it is because she taught at the Butler School as Grade 3 classroom teacher from 2010-2016, in addition to classroom leadership experiences in Lawrence, MA and Colombia.

During our process Julie impressed us, proving herself to be the enthusiastic, hard-working, and inclusive professional your children deserve.  She was selected from a pool of highly-qualified applicants, totaling more than 19 applicants, 7 first round interviewees, and two finalists.  She was the preference of Butler parents/guardians, Butler staff, and my leadership team. I am thankful that so many community stakeholders participated in the interview process including submitting questions, attending interviews, and completing feedback forms.  She will remain in this interim position until the end of next school year: June 30, 2023.  Our search for a permanent Butler Principal will commence next year.  Offering an extended 1.5 year interim period was a critical part of attracting a candidate as highly qualified as Julie to leave her current position in the middle of this year.  It is an offer that provides the Butler community with consistency during this important time.

I feel that we are fortunate to have a leader like Julie lead your child’s school.  In the coming days we will be releasing information about “Meet and Greet” opportunities where you can meet her.  Please be on the lookout for that information.  I know that you join me in welcoming Ms. Babson to Butler.
