Butler Family Summer Update from Principal Betancourt - August 13, 2021

From the Principal

Dear Butler Families,

I sincerely hope you have all been able to find some rest and relaxation this summer, as well as some joy.  Most of all, I hope you are staying safe and healthy.  While we've made progress since this time last summer, there is still much planning and preparation required to have us up and ready to welcome your children back to our building in September.  I write to share some updates and information as it is known now.  Rest assured that more information will follow as we know more.

Class Placement:

As of today, 329 students are assigned to Butler and we will have three classes per grade.  I will be sending out placement letters next Wednesday with class lists and information for the start of the school year, aligned with the other elementary schools.

Staffing Updates:

Our long time and wonderful School Psychologist, Jess Eisner, will be one of the two new Elementary Team Chairs, responsible for leading and facilitating student support.  While we will miss having her in her previous role, we are thrilled that she will continue to be a part of our community, sharing her skills and knowledge to support children, families, and staff members.  I'm happy to share that Megan Miranda will be our new School Psychologist.  Megan comes to us after successful experiences in the Boston and Wayland Public Schools.  She earned her MEd/EdS in School Psychology from Tufts University.  We also welcome Avery Kallas as our Art Teacher.  Avery took over after Ms. Wakeen did not return in April for family reasons.  I'm delighted that Avery has decided to continue to share her creativity, energy, and positivity with our community.

In other news, two of our dear Professional Aides will not be returning due to new opportunities.  Michael Mann has decided to move to another state, and Erin McTomney will be pursuing graduate work.  I wish them both well and am actively hiring for these open positions.

Butler Family Virtual Show and Tells

Does your family have something special to you that you would like to tell the Butler community about? Maybe you have a favorite family book that you would like to read aloud, or there's a family recipe you'd like to cook with the community, or, or you'd like to tell the story behind an object that has special meaning to your family.

The Butler PTA invites your entire family to participate in the virtual family show and tells that will occur throughout the upcoming school year. We hope these Zoom events will help our community members get to know each other better. Families propose a date, time, and duration that works for them. We provide the Zoom link, you just have to show up. Please
complete this form to sign up. Once we receive your response, we will email you to approve and confirm your topic and Zoom date. If you have any questions, email us at bulterpta@gmail.com.

We eagerly looking forward to starting the school year with each of you!  Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

With every good wish,

Danielle-Betancourt
