Mission/Vision Statement Feedback

As you may already know, we have been working this winter and spring to create a school improvement plan that includes a mission statement, vision statement, core values, and goal areas that are aligned to our district goals and address short and long range goals for our students and school community as a whole.  The Burbank School Advisory Council will meet at the end of the month to review all elements of the plan.  It is important to incorporate the voices of all constituent groups in this work, and as such, we have for feedback on goals and words to help shape our mission and vision in prior family news communications.

Today we are asking for your feedback on the mission and vision statements that have been drafted from the words educators, families  and community members have contributed over the past two months.

Burbank's draft statements are:

Mission Statement:

At Burbank School we cultivate a joyful inclusive school culture with high expectations for all students, educators and families that builds upon the collective capacity of staff, encourages reflection and thoughtful discussion, celebrates successes and emphasizes effort.

Vision Statement:

Our vision is to empower all students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them, as life-long learners, to participate in and contribute to the global world and practice the positive behavior expectations of our school: be respectful, be responsible, and be ready.

Superintendent Phelan’s Message RE: Masks sent 5/9/22

Dear BPS Parents and Guardians,

The increase in BPS COVID-19 case numbers is reflective of what is going on in the community and the state. Since the April break we have seen an increase in cases and this is most likely due to the contagiousness of the Omicron variant, as well as, increased social gatherings and travel. We continue to work closely with the Belmont Health Department to monitor cases and keep our students and staff safer. We ask for your continued support in this effort, particularly at times like this when we experience increasing cases.

In an environment where many mitigations have been lifted, and the CDC has declared the Middlesex county community level of COVID cases to be high, we ask that you consider the following recommendations as an added layer of protection:

  • Consider having your student wear a mask while in school.  We are not mandating but simply recommending this added layer of protection.

  • If any symptoms are present and antigen tests remain negative – wear a mask when in school.
