Good Morning, Burbank Families!

I hope this message finds you enjoying this snow day with your family! It has been a wonderful week learning and growing at Burbank School! Students and staff are so happy to be back together after winter break and despite the uncertainty that COVID continues to provide for us, we continue to come together as a school community with positivity and care for one another.

IMPORTANT: As mentioned in yesterday's communication, please send students to school with pool tests on Monday, January 10, 2022 due to today's snow day.

Burbank Virtual Family Coffee Invitation

44 families completed the family input survey originally sent out before vacation and noted an interest in virtual family “coffee” hours with the principal that will occur before, during, or after the school day. The goal of these sessions is to provide families time to provide informal time to ask questions and share their thoughts about Burbank School. In an effort to connect with most families possible in my first month here, I have scheduled three sessions for January:

Wednesday, January 12, 2022: 7:50am-8:10am and 12:00pm-12:20pm
Thursday, January 13, 2022: 7:00pm-7:20pm

Quarantine Tutoring for Students

The Belmont Public Schools offers tutoring to students who are in quarantine or isolation due to COVID and not able to attend school. Below are the details about tutoring:

Tutoring services are delivered virtually for up to 10 days per student.
Tutoring referrals are made once the need for quarantine is determined. However, as it takes a few days to process a referral and arrange a tutor, the tutoring may not actually begin until students return to school given the short 5-day quarantine. In cases like this, the tutoring will focus more on academic support for transitioning back into the classroom vs provision of curriculum/instruction while the student is absent.
Tutors coordinate content and materials directly with the classroom teacher.
Tutoring is discussed as an option during the initial communication with the school nurse related to a student's quarantine.

Attendance Reminder: Vacation During School Days

School vacations are scheduled well in advance each year. In fact, notice is given during the previous school year. Taking children out of school when school is in session sends a negative message to the child about the importance of being in school. Teachers are not required to provide school work or make-up work for such circumstances.

MCAS Schedule: Spring 2022

For families of students in grades 3 and 4, just a reminder that they will participate in MCAS testing in Spring 2022. Please make a note of these dates on your calendar. More information will be provided as we get closer to the testing dates.

Please note: The target audience for this workshop is parents/guardians with students in Pre-K to Grade 2 as it will focus on skill development in these grade levels.

Belmont Public Schools Online Registration for your Incoming Kindergartner opens January 28, 2022 for School Year 2022-2023

Important registration information for current BPS families:

You do not need to register a grade 1-12 existing Belmont Public Schools student again.
You do need to register your incoming kindergartner even if you are a current Belmont Public Schools family. To ensure placement of your incoming kindergartner at the same elementary school as your grade 1-4 child, please submit all required documents to complete registration for your incoming kindergartner by April 8.
Current Wellington preschool families will be emailed registration instructions.
To enter Kindergarten, the child must be five years old on or before September 1st of the year they will attend school.

Please begin your kindergarten registration online as of January 28. If you have any questions regarding your registration, please contact the school you registered with.
