Burbank Family News - January 2, 2022

Dear Burbank Families,

I hope this email finds you well and that your family enjoyed some rest and relaxation over winter break. 

As you likely already know from Superintendent Phelan’s email (linked here) sent on Friday, there will be a 1-hour delay for all students on Monday, January 3, 2022.  What this means for Burbank is that school will begin for students at 9:40am.  BASEC before school care has been cancelled, too. Buses will be on a one hour delay in the morning, too. The school day will end at the typical dismissal time of 2:50pm.

Burbank Family Survey Update

Thank you to the families who completed this family survey shared in the Burbank Family News before the break. In this survey, the majority of families are requesting a weekly communication like this from the school, but there is a request for the synthesis of information with other district communication so families are not overwhelmed with content or frequency. Please complete the family survey by Friday, January 7, 2022, if you are interested in sharing your thoughts.  Your responses will be used to inform my communication practices and supports as I begin serving as your interim principal. All responses are anonymous unless you choose to share your name and contact information.

Burbank Cares Drive Thank You

The December Burbank Cares Drive to benefit Burbank students was a wonderful success!  Thank you to the many families who donated gift cards for the drive this year.  Thanks to your generosity, we were able to collect over $2400 in gift cards to assist our students.  The Burbank community is amazing!

BPS Health Protocols

Below are the most up to date health reminders and recommendations for BPS families:

  1. Use the symptom checker every morning. Submit the form to your school nurse and keep your student home if they exhibit symptoms.
  2. Send your student to school with the best masks possible. N95, KN95, or KF94 masks are recommended for the best protection. The district has purchased additional masks as a back-up for students if needed.
  3. If you haven’t already done so, register your student for Routine COVID Pooled Testing. Here is the link to register. Pooled testing is important for vaccinated students as well. 
  4. Get your student vaccinated and boosted when they are eligible. 
  5. If you have access to at-home testing, please use this as an additional safety measure. We are reviewing our ability to modify our pool-testing schedule.

Upcoming Booster and Testing Days

Belmont Public Schools Vaccination Booster Date:  This event is for BPS students who are 16 years of age or older and who are CDC eligible for the booster. A separate communication from the BPS nursing staff will be sent this week with a pre-registration link and guidelines.

  • Tuesday, 1/4/2022 at Belmont High School between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. 

Belmont Health Department Community Testing Day:  Please go to the Belmont Health Department webpage for more information on how to pre-register.

  • Saturday, 1/8/2022, at the Chenery Middle School between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
