Finally, we have a message from Mr. Okie about an opportunity to serve on Burbank's School Site Council.  Please see his message below.

Dear Burbank Families,

The COVID Pandemic disrupted many of Burbank’s routines, including our School Site Council.

A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

Burbank’s Council has two faculty members, but only one remaining parent representative, Kristina Elias.  I am formally requesting volunteers to join the council.  We need a total of at least three parent representatives, so if more than two people volunteer we will hold a vote.

Family Representatives on the School Site Council must be chosen by the community without influence of the Principal or other school officials. The PTA has created a form for you to volunteer if you are interested in participating, and a second form will be shared if the number of volunteers requires a vote to find just two more representatives.

FAQs about the Site Council:

Q: What is the commitment in time as a representative?

A: The council will meet approximately once per month during the school year.  The meetings are schedule to be an hour long and will likely be a mixture of virtual and in person meetings.  The meetings will need to take place before or after school to allow teachers to attend. Once members are chosen, a regular time will be found.

Q: What does the Site Council do?

A: The school council purpose is to assist the principal in development of educational goals, and to create the School Improvement Plan.  The school plan helps guide the work of teachers, families, and students to continue to improve the educational experience at Burbank.
