Oct 5, 2021 PTA News: Walk to School Day tomorrow! Picture Day!

| Return|

Dear Parents,

We look forward to seeing everyone walk, bike and bus to school tomorrow, Wednesday the 6th for International Walk to School Day.  You should have details in your inbox from your Room Parents.

Also, due to the growing number of lost belongings, on good weather days there will be a Lost and Found bin placed outdoors near the front entrance of the school.  Please check for lost items; when it becomes overwhelming items may be donated to a good cause.

Morning Drop Off - PLEASE Read for Safety Information

Rolling Drop Off (Gale Road)

  • Rolling drop off is on Gale Road (behind the school) - it's called rolling because people pull up to the spot where the teacher is, drops off safely and rolls away.  No parking and getting out.
  • There is only one staff person at the top of the hill so only one car should be dropping off children at a time. Wait your turn and pull up.
  • If parents want to keep their kids in their cars longer for whatever reason they need to park in areas that don't impact the rolling drop off.
  • If parents are in a hurry, please arrive earlier to drop off (at times there is a line and we are asking for patience from the parents and to wait until it is their turn to drop off - again for the safety of all the children).  Drop off is staffed starting at 8:25.
  • Please have your children as prepared as possible with backpacks ready to go, masks on and hugs and kisses already finished when dropping of their child so that the routine runs smoothly

Other Reminders: Parking and Dogs

  • There is no parking on Sharpe Road on one side and on both sides around the curve. Our buses cannot safely enter when cars illegally park in non-parking spots. It is well-signed, please give yourself time to find appropriate parking in the morning.
  • Please be respectful of our neighbors' driveways.  Residents need to be able to safely pull in and out of their driveways even during school drop off and pick up times.
  • No dogs are allowed on school property when school is in session.  Please leave your pups at home during drop off and pick up.

Next Week

Thursday, October 14th is PICTURE DAY.  Ordering photos is optional and available until the 17th.  If you are ordering, doing so online is highly preferred.   All instructions are in the attached form from Hayward Photography.  We will send a reminder, but please mark your calendars!  Photos will all be outdoors; so if weather is bad we will reschedule.  Quick online order instructions are as follows:

  • Visit haywardphotography.com
  • Click "Prepay for Photo Day" button
  • Enter our code "BUR21"
  • Enter child's name
  • Select the package you want and add it to the cart
  • Click on the cart and follow payment instructions

Friday, October 15th, 4:30pm is the Burbank Fall Social! This outdoor community gathering will feature:

  • Seasonal fun including pumpkin decorating,
  • Trolley Dogs food truck (pre-ordering will be available),
  • Launch of the PTA Annual Appeal with prizes, and
  • An outdoor movie showing!

More details will follow, including a volunteer sign up for helping out at the event.  All are welcome including siblings.  You may want to plan to bring a blanket to sit on and your own picnic food if you wish (Trolley Dogs does offer vegetarian and gluten free options).

Also on October 15th, at 3:00 come plant a flower bulb! You are invited to stop by the Veggie Garden behind the school to have the chance to plant a flower bulb that will bloom next spring. (Siblings are welcome. No sign up required.) We thank last year's fourth grade Garden Club for raising the funds to make this planting happen.  Some of these now-fifth graders will be on hand to help out and share what they love about the Burbank gardens.
