Schedules

Belmont Middle School students are scheduled for 6 instructional blocks per day attend classes for their enrolled academic subjects across a 7-day cycle.

Students attend ELA, Foreign Language, Social Studies, Science, and Math 6 blocks per cycle. Additionally, Music meets 4 blocks and Physical Education meets 2 blocks per cycle. Finally, students attend a unified arts block 6 blocks per cycle which rotates every 30 school days between Health, Engineering, and Visual Arts.

Please note

The homeroom announcements begin at 7:55am every morning. However, students should arrive before then, and can arrive in the cafeteria as early as 7:15 AM. Students arriving late miss important instruction and begin their day already behind.

After School

After the school day ends students who remain on campus must be accountable to an adult: at an extra help session, enrolled in the BASEC after school program, participating in a club or team. All students are expected to be accountable to an adult any time they are in school, including before school and after school. Our School Resource Officer and campus monitors are responsible for asking each student, “Which adult are you accountable to?” during all times outside of regular school hours.

Regular School Days

Regular school days, including Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, school begins at 7:55 AM (with first entry allowed from 7:15) and ends at 2:25 PM.

Regular Wednesdays

On Wednesdays the block schedule in the cycle remains the same while following a shorter school day (7:55 AM-1:15 PM) to accommodate staff meeting time.

Early Release Wednesdays

The annual calendar includes early release days and curriculum days for staff development and parent conferences. On early release days, students are dismissed at 11:00.

BMS SCHEDULE

Arrival and Dismissal

One of the keys to academic achievement is good attendance. Consistent participation in school and school-based activities is important for making a successful transition from youth to adulthood. Student tardiness and truancy are challenges that confront many communities in Massachusetts and the country. Often, these behaviors are the first indicators that a student may be experiencing stress or other difficulties in his or her life.

01. Regular School Day

  • 7:15-7:44 - Proceed directly to the cafeteria
  • 7:45-7:55 - Proceed directly to assigned team pod or 1st block classroom
  • 7:56-onwards - Check in at the main office for a late pass

Before-school supervision begins at 7:15 am. Responsible adults will be in place in the cafeteria starting at that time. In the interest of safety, students should not arrive before this time.

02. Delayed / Late Start

  • 9:15-9:44 - Proceed directly to the cafeteria
  • 9:45-9:55 - Proceed directly to assigned team pod or 1st block classroom
  • 9:56-onwards - Check in at the main office for a late pass

Our dismissal procedure at the end of the day is intended to minimize disruptions to the learning process. Although we realize it is sometimes necessary for students to be dismissed early from school, we hope to avoid this disruption as much as possible. If possible, parents/guardians should call the attendance line in advance to let us know of changes to a student’s dismissal plans. We will then follow these steps:

  • When a parent/guardian arrives in the main office for early dismissal, the student will be called out of class and must be signed out by a parent/guardian.
  • Students may not leave the building without a parent/guardian present.
  • If the student returns to school later in the same day, s/he must report to the main office to be checked-in and receive a pass to return to class.

The attendance lines must also be used to notify us of your plans for student dismissal. Please leave your student’s name, grade, date, and time for dismissal.

An adult must enter the main office and sign-out the student at the time of dismissal, at which time the student will be called out of class. No student will be allowed to walk home or meet a parent waiting outside.
