From the Principal's Desk - Week of January 10, 2022

Happy snow day, BHS. I hope that you are able to make the most of the day, hopefully by slowing down and taking time for some self-care. This week I have been really grateful to the staff for pivoting once again with this new health situation, and extremely proud of our BHS students who have been mature and responsible throughout the week. I believe that everyone is taking the health situation seriously, and doing a great job adjusting to where we are right now. I know that there are different views on what we should be doing right now, but what I have seen in school this week is everyone finding common ground in being respectful of each other and kind to one another.

I would like to extend my warmest wishes for good vibes and a joyful, peaceful holiday break. I am really proud of everyone this year for doing so well in our first long stretch of normal school since the start of the pandemic. I am so impressed with how everyone has adjusted to being back at school, continuing to wear masks, and figuring out a new building. I know this Fall was not perfect, but it has been a really good start. It is a short break this year, so please do whatever you can to step away and rest. We will be back on Monday January 3, 2022.

As we look forward to the holiday season, I would like to remind everyone that our goal at the school this year is to not only keep our school open but to keep the school experience as positive as possible. So far this year, we have been able to have after school athletics and concerts, as well as fairly normal classes, with group work, science labs, and opportunities for discussions and collaboration.

I know that you have heard from me multiple times this week. I end the week feeling very grateful for our students and staff for sharing holiday spirit despite the many stressors we are working through. The school improvement council will begin meeting in November. The group will consist of parents, students, teachers and a community member. The goal of this group is to create a school improvement plan for the 2022-2023 school year. I am so grateful that we have all of our students back in school this year, and that the high school experience is much more normal for students. My goal is to keep students in school, and to keep the school experience a good one, with as few restrictions to learning and socializing as possible. In order to achieve this goal, we rely on our mitigation strategies: masking, vaccinations, ventilation, hand washing, and social distancing where possible. Our vaccination rates are over 80 percent, and I would love to increase this number.
