The Belmont High School Fencing Team held its first meet in the history of our school on Friday, January 17, 2020 at a dual meet at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Three women Belmont High School fencers competed against fencers from Dana Hall, and they did very well. Julia Ying, BHS Class of 2022 won all three bouts. Crystal Huang, BHS Class of 2021, won two bouts and lost one. Rachel Li, BHS Class of 2024, won all three bouts.
On the men’s side, the Belmont High School fencers did equally as well against the fencers from St. Johns Prep. Adam Yang, BHS Class of 2021, won three bouts and lost one. Sean Dong, BHS Class of 2023, won two bouts and lost two. Daniel Kang, BHS Class of 2021, was present to cheer his teammates to victory. Tom Brow, Belmont High School Assistant Principal and Fencing Coach, was very proud of this historic meet.
Other fencers on the Belmont High School Fencing Team include: David Leigh, Jaden Ruan, Daniel Zhang, Jonathan Wang, Elia Matrician, Katie Arkin, and Elizabeth Chambers. Upcoming Belmont fencers from the Chenery Middle School include: Luka Loncar, Evan Zhang, Rachael Wang and Ayren Li.
The first year, by rule, is a qualifying year for the team. Let’s hope the Belmont High School fencers qualify for next year’s Massachusetts High School Fencing Championship Tournament!
