Before and After School Programs

There are after school programs available in the four elementary schools and middle school, offering quality activities and programming. These programs are independently run by four organizations: Belmont After School Enrichment Collaborative (BASEC), servicing the Mary Lee Burbank and W. L. Chenery schools and a Belmont High School tutoring program; Butler Extended Day Program, servicing the Daniel Butler School; Wellington Student Care, servicing Wellington school; and Winn Brook Schools for Children, servicing the Winn Brook School. Each organization has program offerings based on the collective mission of providing excellent care for a child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being.

Burbank

BASEC BurbankBASEC @ Burbank Before School Program

BASEC Before School offers supervised, age appropriate activities intentionally designed to enhance students' social, emotional, cognitive and physical development for Burbank students in grades K-4.  The program runs from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM.  No food services are offered, but students can bring breakfast from home.

BASEC @ Burbank After School Program

BASEC After School offers a structured, diverse curriculum including arts, sports, mindfulness, homework support, and fun for Burbank students in grades K-4.  The program runs from the end of the school day (2:50 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 1:40 PM or 11:40 AM on Wednesdays) until 5:50 PM.

BASEC Workshops

BASEC offers two 10-week and one 6-week workshop sessions during the school year for all Burbank students in grades K-4.  BASEC offers a wide range of classes that provide authentic learning experiences for students with all interests.  Examples of Workshops from previous sessions include:

  • karate,
  • theater,
  • sports,
  • science,
  • computer coding,
  • hip hop,
  • cooking,
  • keyboarding,
  • piano,
  • guitar and art.

Butler

The Butler Extended Day Program (BEDP) offers before and after school care for students enrolled at the Daniel Butler elementary school. Children choose from a variety of activities each day including outside and gym time, arts and crafts, cooking, dance, drama, homework club and free play. BEDP is licensed by the state office of Early Education and Care, with capacity of 140 children per day.

Wellington

Before and after-school childcare programs are currently available at Wellington. Information about the cost and schedule for these programs can be obtained from the website at https://www.wellingtonstudentcare.com

Winn Brook

Winn Brook Child Care

The Winn Brook Extended Learning Program 

Located at the Winn Brook Elementary School in Belmont, this EEC-licensed program provides high-quality before- and after-school programming for children in the Winn Brook School community.

Serving students in kindergarten through 4th Grade, WBExL offers supervised and staff-directed activities that are designed to enhance student learning and promote their overall social and emotional development.

Program operates on the Belmont Public School calendar.

Chenery Middle School

CMS After School Activities and PTO Clubs

Participation in any after school or evening activity requires that the student be in school on that day. An activity fee per year is charged which covers all extra curricular and athletic activities. Intramural sports are held on a different afternoon for each grade. Activities vary and are posted outside of the school gym and are announced over the PA. For more information about After School Activities visit the Chenery Middle School web site. 

The PTO sponsors 8-week clubs several times a year. The PTO clubs require a separate fee and are not covered by the Belmont Public Schools activity fee. For more information visit Chenery PTO website.

BASEC @ Chenery After School Program

BASEC CheneryBASEC @ Chenery, the after school enrichment program at Chenery Middle School, is open to all students in grades 5 - 8 from the end of the school day (2:25 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 1:15 PM or 11:00 AM on Wednesday) until 6:00 PM.

BASEC provides Chenery students with a bridge between school and home. With a well-developed curriculum, BASEC @ Chenery imparts important 21st century skills including organizational skills,community service, social awareness, communication, creative problem solving,mindfulness, collaboration and teamwork. 

BASEC @ Chenery Workshops 

BASEC offers two 10-week Workshop sessions during the school year, available to all Chenery students. Workshops are designed with the rigor appropriate for middle school in topics that are fun and engaging to promote content-specific learning. Examples include: 

  • Model United Nations 
  • Live Action Role Play (LARP) 
  • Computer coding and 3D printing 
  • Filmmaking 
  • Music Production
