Superintendent's February 2019 Newsletter

Superintendent's February 2019 Newsletter

date 2/7/2019

It is hard to believe we are more than halfway through the school year, as February 7 marked the 100th day of school. It is equally hard to believe that daylight savings time begins on March 10 (clocks go forward one hour). We are six weeks away from the astronomical first day of spring on March 20 with February recess just around the corner. We hope you enjoy the time away and have a relaxing week. Please see the calendar below, busy with events into mid-March.

Superintendent's January 2019 Newsletter

date 1/14/2019

It is my delight and privilege to visit schools on a regular basis to see teaching and learning in our schools across the district. One of the schools I recently visited was Burbank, who had just held a school-wide "Community Meeting" on, I have a Dream, the speech Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered at the Lincoln Memorial during the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It was inspiring to see the follow up work done in each classroom. At this time I wish to remind the community of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast at BHS on January 21 from 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Keynote Speaker Dr. Emmett Price and other distinguished guests. Please go here for ticket information.

We hope you are all having a wonderful start to this new year of 2019. Please see the latest news in the district and in the calendar section below.

Superintendent's November 2, 2018 Newsletter

date 11/2/2018
Fall is in full swing with Halloween festivities behind us and the end of daylight saving time creeping upon us. Please remember to "fall back" and set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 4. Please also see the latest news and calendar below, with many activities listed for you and your family to enjoy.

School Committee Meeting in Boston:  The School Committee held its October 23 meeting at the Shelburne Community Center in Roxbury. The School Committee does this annually to support communication with our Belmont-METCO families. Also at this meeting, Belmont Against Racism (BAR) donated $16,000 to support safe transportation for Boston students who are participating in after school activities. We thank BAR for their continued generosity and support for our students.

Belmont High School Building Committee (BHSBC): The October 12 Superintendent's Newsletter shared some questions from community members and shared the answers to those questions. The Belmont Citizen Herald recently asked the BHSBC to share information on the new features the BHS grade 7-12 building will have that the current building does not have.
