Your Voice Matters - Session 2;

SCHOOL RE-OPENING AND TRANSITIONING TO HYBRID LEARNING FOR CHILDREN WITH DIFFERENT ABILITIES

Date: Wednesday, October 14th, 6:30- 9pm

The Belmont Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is holding its second Parent Information Session (PIS) on October 14th starting at 6:30pm. This session will continue our conversation, now that school has re-opened and transitioning to a hybrid model for children with different abilities. It will also be a time for the Department of Student Services (Ken Kramer and Jonathan Libby), the Lexington, Arlington, Belmont, Burlington, Bedford (LABBB) collaborative (Patric Barberi), and our Integrated Pre School (Briana Wall) to answer your questions and listen to your concerns and suggestions. The feedback you provide will have a direct impact on the training that teachers will have during the school year to better serve your children.

We know this academic year is not like anything we have ever experienced. We are concerned that all students must face new and different back to school challenges. We continue to hear from parents who have specific questions about their children's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and services received from their school. We are interested to hear from as many parents as possible so we can gather and share collective feedback with administrators and teachers. We look forward to your participation.

Kindly submit additional questions using this form (https://forms.gle/jhDJ9AVTR2nvW1TV6).

AGENDA FOR THE EVENING:

We had over 100 attendees to "Your Voice Matters" Session 1. Although we covered a lot of ground, we unfortunately did not get all questions asked and answered. This follow up session is a second chance to continue this topic and address additional concerns.

Superintendent's Letter - Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 - Tuesday, October 20, 2020
I write to inform you about two new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in our school community.  We received confirmation from the Belmont Department of Health on 10/19/2020, regarding both of these cases.  Please note that these cases were identified as close contacts of the confirmed case previously reported on 10/14/2020.  Since 10/14/2020 that classroom has been closed and all students and staff have been working and learning  remotely. This is what we know for certain at this time: The Department of Health received confirmation that they received two laboratory testing reports indicating that school community members (i.e., student or staff) at Chenery Middle School school have been diagnosed with a confirmed case of COVID-19

Belmont Food Services: Update #3
Belmont Food Services: Update #3
First off, thank you to all participating families who have been coming by our meal pick up over the last month. The turnout has been tremendous and truly supports our children as well as our program. In the last four weeks, we have seen over 70,000 meals go out the door! We have determined that meal pick up and home meal kit delivery is the SAFEST and most efficient way to get meals to our student body. Please note we will continue through the upcoming models and until guidance is released to safely feed students in an unrestricted setting in our cafeterias.

We are sorry to say we have made the difficult decision to postpone this fun fundraiser, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience. Any registrations already made for the original date will be honored for the rescheduled event, or refunded at your request. Please email the Bee Keeper at beekeeper@fbe-belmont.org for a refund. Please keep a look out for our rescheduled date announcement!

John Phelan, Superintendent of Schools

Welcome back to students and families to the beginning of school year 2020-2021. The first few days of school are behind us, and we thank you for your patience as we work out the challenges that come with using this new technology in our classrooms. This is the first Superintendent’s newsletter of the year, which is published monthly to give you news from the district. During this year, we will also continue to issue Superintendent’s Bulletins as necessary to give you important information that may need to be delivered in a timely manner pertaining to COVID or operational news.
