Twenty Ninth Annual Staff Recognition Day
Twenty Ninth Annual Staff Recognition Day
Staff Recognition Day was held on May 20 to celebrate 55 members of Belmont Public Schools for their years of service ranging from 10 to 35. Although the reception was a bit different this year, virtual instead of everyone gathering, the sentiment is the same in that we thank everyone for all of their years of service to Belmont Public Schools and the students of Belmont. A recording of the virtual event is available on YouTube.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. It finally feels like our New England "spring/summer" is here. Usually at this time we invite local veterans to several schools to honor them for their service through song and poems. We are sad we could not provide that this year; however, Winn Brook School decided to continue the tradition. Please see more on that below and other news from the district.

The weeks are getting shorter and busier as we speed through the month of May. It is hard to believe Memorial Day weekend is already here. Please know Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, is a holiday, and there is no school on that day.

Parenting in the Time of Coronavirus – Pre-Recorded Webinars
As part of a partnership with Belmont Public Schools, the McLean Hospital School Consultation team has recorded two webinars that focus on helping parents navigate challenging COVID-19 circumstances. One video is geared toward parents of elementary school-aged children and the other video is geared toward parents of middle and high school-aged teens. The videos have some overlapping content, although the examples provided are age-specific. Please see below for a more detailed description. Each video is followed by a pre-recorded Q and A that includes answers to the questions Belmont parents submitted. We hope that you find them helpful!

We hope you were able to enjoy Mother's Day weekend even with the snowy start to it on Saturday. We know it is not easy being a parent in the best of times but it is especially challenging these days during the pandemic. We appreciate our entire Belmont community for their generosity of spirit and help in supporting our students.

We know our 2020 Belmont High School graduates feel the restraints of physical distancing the most deeply, having to spend the remainder of their last year away from all their classmates. First and foremost, we are sorry this is our current situation and feel horrible for our seniors – they are missing out on many true traditions and rites of passage, and it is sad. We are trying to balance safety and celebration. As an administration we will pause this process to review and re-examine ideas that have been emailed to us from our parents and students. Our goal is to provide a safe and celebratory experience for our seniors under our current circumstances.
