New School Committee Member

Thomas CaputoThomas Caputo is named as the new sixth member of the Belmont School Committee.  He was chosen on Monday, November 17 by the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee.  He was selected from eight candidates who applied for the position.

He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Kevin Cunningham, and will serve on the committee until the Town election in April 2015.

Tom and his family have lived in Belmont for the last seven years and his children currently attend the Winn Brook School.  Tom has extensive experience in finance, operations, and strategy.  He graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in Computer Science and Biophysical Chemistry and also earned an MBA from Stanford University.  Tom currently serves as Chief Product Officer at Fiksu, an emerging mobile start-up in Boston.

The Board of Selectmen and School Committee chose Tom for his vast experience in finance and technology, as well as his emphasis on a consensus-building approach to strategy and problem solving, which is so critical in town government.

Superintendent Phelan and the Belmont School Committee welcomed him at the School Committee meeting on November 18.
