Massachusetts Teacher of the Year

MA Teacher of the Year Ceremony

I am most pleased to announce that Commissioner of Education Mitchell Chester has selected Dr. Jeffry Shea, Belmont High School Social Studies teacher, to represent the teachers of Massachusetts as the 2014-2015 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year.  The Commissioner will recognize Jeff formally at a presentation, 9:00 am, Belmont High School Field House, National Teachers Day, Tuesday, May 6.

In our endorsement of Jeff’s consideration for this award, I stated:

I am most pleased to learn that Jeffrey Shea has been selected as a semifinalist for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Jeff was instrumental in the development of Belmont High School’s one-to-one iPad initiative through the piloting of an American Studies program supported by the Foundation for Belmont Education.  I was fortunate on several occasions to visit Jeff’s classroom, to observe an outstanding teacher, and to witness the extent to which he has been able to inform a comprehensive high school effort to improve delivery of content, instill twenty-first century learning skills, and elevate the civic engagement of students.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Commissioner Chester have chosen most wisely!  Congratulations, Jeff!

Principal Dan Richards, the Belmont School Committee, and I invite you to help celebrate Jeff’s contributions to the teaching profession and embrace him as a representative of what is best and most admirable in the teaching profession.
