Dear Belmont Public Schools Community,
It is a pleasure to officially introduce myself to the Belmont Schools Community. I am delighted to be serving as your Interim Assistant Superintendent for this upcoming school year.
Most recently, I have been serving as an Interim Principal in the Acton Boxborough Regional School District. Prior to that I was a Principal/Superintendent in Northern California. Before that I was a History/Social Sciences Curriculum Coordinator and teacher in Newton for more than 15 years. I also have experience teaching overseas at both an International School in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina and a Language School in Pristina, Kosovo. I began my teaching career outside of Denver after receiving my MA in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Colorado (where I also received a BA in Political Science).
As a resident of Belmont and a parent in the Belmont Schools myself, I have a great appreciation for the work that is done here every day. In fact, a large part of why our family chose to leave California was to bring our children back to the Belmont Public Schools. I know firsthand the incredible work that is done to create community, make learning fun and support as well as challenge every student. I also know that this is a district that wants to be actively anti-racist and ensure that every child feels a deep sense of belonging. In large part, that is what drew me to this role.
This is a time of transition; the period coming out of the pandemic has been challenging. That is why I am so excited to partner with Dr. Geiser to support all of you in ensuring that we continue to build upon the work that you have already started to ensure Belmont Public Schools provide every student with an equitable and excellent education.
As I begin my time in the district, I look forward to meeting with you and hearing about the challenges and opportunities that we face together. I am confident that this will be the beginning of a wonderful new era for the Belmont Public Schools.
Warmly,
Lucia Sullivan
Interim Assistant Superintendent
