Educator of the Year and MICCA Hall of Fame Award

Mark Milowsky - Educator of the Year

Mark Milowsky has been named Educator of the Year by the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut. Mark will be honored at their graduation ceremony in May. This is a well-deserved honor for Mark in recognition of all of the work he has done to prepare some of our most outstanding art students to continue their art education at the university level. The bulk of this work takes place over long hours outside of the school day, for which his students and their parents continue to express their admiration and appreciation.

John McLellan - MICCA Hall of Fame

Each year since 1988 the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) has selected one music educator in the state to receive the Paul Smith MICCA Hall of Fame Award. This is a very prestigious honor to be conferred each spring at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Conference in Boston.

John McLellan

We are proud to announce that our very own John McLellan will be the recipient of this year’s award. John is the fifth Belmont educator to be selected for this award, joining Fred Harris (2010), William Pappazisis (2003), Tom O’Halloran (1994) and Bill McManus (1988), but he is the only recipient to be actively teaching in Belmont at the time of his award, and he is most certainly the longest tenured Belmont faculty member to earn this distinction.

We are all well aware of the impact that Mr. McLellan has had on music in our schools and in our community.  For over thirty years John has instilled Belmont students with a love of music and the belief that they can accomplish incredible things if they are willing to work hard enough. We have been fortunate to have the opportunity to witness his work firsthand, and it is extremely gratifying to him receive statewide recognition for his work.
